Family Law Legal Assistant
Location: Ottawa, Ontario
Compensation: $55,000–$65,000 (based on experience)
Our client, a well-established law firm in Ottawa, is seeking a Family Law Legal Assistant to join their team. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with family law experience who thrives in a fast-paced, client-focused legal environment.
Key Responsibilities

Provide administrative and legal support to family law lawyers

Prepare, draft, and format legal documents, including pleadings, affidavits, court forms, correspondence, and briefs

File documents with the court (electronic and in-person, as required) and manage court deadlines

Coordinate and schedule court appearances, mediations, discoveries, and client meetings

Maintain and organize physical and electronic client files

Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and external parties

Track limitation periods and critical dates to ensure compliance with court rules

Assist with billing, time entry, and client accounts as required

Update clients on procedural matters and respond to general inquiries
Qualifications

2–5 years of experience as a legal assistant, preferably in family law

Diploma or certificate in Legal Administration or Law Clerk program preferred

Strong working knowledge of Ontario family law procedures and court rules

Proficiency with legal practice management software and Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)

Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills

Strong written and verbal communication skills in English

Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with professionalism

Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset but not required
