On behalf of Dr. Vito LaRocca, Chief of Ophthalmology at Connecticut Children’s in Hartford, CT, CareerPhysician, LLC, the national thought leader in academic pediatric search, is leading a national effort to identify 2 talented faculty ophthalmologists. CCMC is the only dedicated provider of pediatric care in central Connecticut and is committed to providing exceptional eye care.

The ophthalmology division upholds a strong community-first focus designed to meet the large and diverse needs of central CT, including the greater Hartford region. This broad mission includes providing subspecialty pediatric eye care, including a significant focus on ROP, and acting as the community leader in primary pediatric eye care and myopia mitigation. Faculty will have the unique opportunity and flexibility to pursue a variety of professional interests, including opportunities for teaching and clinical research.

Opportunity Highlights:

  • Connecticut Children’s (CCMC), a stand-alone children’s hospital in Hartford, is the only institution in the state that offers a unique, child-centered environment with the expertise of fellowship-trained pediatric ophthalmologists and the complement of multidisciplinary programs and diagnostic capabilities. The ophthalmology division provides a tremendous opportunity to build nationally recognized clinical programs with niche opportunities in retinopathy of prematurity (ROP), cataract surgery, inpatient/consult ophthalmology and strabismus.
  • ROP service line leadership appointment available to ophthalmologists who have this interest and possess clinical competencies and training to screen and treat ROP patients.
  • The Division of Pediatric Ophthalmology is home to 6 faculty, including 2 ophthalmologists, 4 optometrists and 2 advanced practice clinicians dedicated to serving children throughout Connecticut, Western Massachusetts, and Eastern New York - approximately 1,000,000 pediatric lives in addition to responsibility for the oversight of 10 NICUs in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
  • The joining ophthalmologists can expect a culture defined by communication, collaboration and will align and report directly to the Division Chief at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, joining an institution with strategic and fiscal commitment to the clinical, academic, and educational enhancement of the division to meet an expanding clinical need throughout the region.
  • All faculty appointments and promotions will reside at UCONN School of Medicine. CCMC is committed to the critical resources essential to launch a Pediatric Ophthalmology Fellowship Program in the future.
  • The compensation range for this appointment will start at the 50th percentile based on individual rank and is negotiable. In addition, CCMC offers an attractive productivity incentive, paid out quarterly, as well as a sign-on bonus and relocation assistance.
