Syracuse, NY

The Pediatric Service Group, LLP located at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, and Chair of Pediatrics, Greg Conners MD, is pleased to inform you of the inception of a national search to identify a dynamic and talented physician to join the section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine in Syracuse, NY.

The Upstate University Health System serves 1.8 million people, often the most seriously ill and injured, and includes Upstate University Hospital, Upstate University Hospital at Community Campus, Upstate Golisano Children's Hospital, and numerous satellite sites.

Opportunity Highlights:

  • The Section of Pediatric Hospital Medicine houses a new two-year PHM fellowship program with one fellow spot per year. They currently have a fellow for 2023 and 2024. The fellowship’s accreditation was affected by the probationary status of the residency. They are on “administrative probation” because their accreditation relies on a pediatric residency in good standing.
  • The hospitalist service staffs three teams every day, 365 days per year, with additional teams created at times of high volume. There are two teaching teams, each led by a hospitalist with senior residents, interns, and medical students, and a third team led by a hospitalist with nurse practitioners that have patients with behavioral/mental health concerns and straightforward medical problems. Teaching services see 12-15 patients per day. Night call is from home through a shared call rotation averaging two nights of home call per service week.
  • The hospital system features an on-site PICU, Children’s Surgical Center, and dedicated Pediatric Emergency Room, all staffed by dedicated teams. The departments offers a comprehensive group of pediatric subspecialists, pediatric surgical subspecialists, and pediatric ancillary services available for inpatient and outpatient consultation. We are also an ACS certified level one pediatric trauma center and burn center. The hospitalist team is not responsible for covering NICU, delivery room, or newborn services at this time.
  • Faculty will be part of a culture that values stability and makes a concerted effort to ensure physicians strike a healthy balance between clinical time, academic endeavors, and quality of life away from the hospital.
  • Golisano Children’s is unwavering in providing fiscal support to expand Pediatric Hospital Medicine services to manage unexpected patient surges. In addition, the institution provides salary funding for the hospitalist faculty as well as continued support for hiring nurse practitioners and essential ancillary staff to help with various clinical activities.
  • Upstate Golisano Children’s is considering faculty at all ranks. Applicants should be board eligible, or board certified in Pediatrics. Board certification in Pediatric Hospital Medicine is preferred, but not required.
