Our client, a Managed Healthcare company based in Cape Town, is recruiting for a Facilities Coordinator / Handyman.
JOB PURPOSE:
This position will suit an organised, pro-active, self-motivated, hands-on individual with practical building maintenance skills. The ideal candidate is able to use initiative to solve minor problems and can act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation. The main role of the Facilities Coordinator/Handyman is to assist the Building Facilities Manager in coordination and execution of all tasks and actions regarding general maintenance of the building as required to ensure the facility complies to standard.

The main role of the Facilities Coordinator/Handyman is to assist the Building Facilities Manager in coordination and execution of all tasks and actions regarding general maintenance of the building as required to ensure the facility complies to standard.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Technical Requests:
- Assist in corrective, planned and preventative maintenance
- Repairs to all building fabric, carpentry and joinery
- Repairs to locks, handles hinges and accessories
- Conduct minor building repairs, maintenance and painting
- Maintain tool boxes and equipment
- Report all technical defects and assist in rectifying
- Perform daily routine building inspections and report to line manager
- Manage general housekeeping and tools register
- Move office furniture
- Assist in unloading big deliveries
- Move unused furniture or equipment to store
- Maintain neatness of stores
- Compile store stock sheet
- Familiarise with the layout and facilities of the site and adhere to the house rules
- Establish and maintain a good working relationship with the management and staff
- Adhere to reasonable ad hoc requests from management
SECONDARY DUTIES
Facility Maintenance:
- Inspect all facilities are in good working order
- Inspect tiling and paved surfaces
- Inspect all partitioning, ceilings, roof and building structure
- Inspect windows and doors are all in good order
- Inspect all painted surfaces are in good order
- Report / communicate defects / repairs to Manager
- Adhere to safety standards
- Assist with Health and Safety maintenance
- Keep work space safe (e.g. no items are left in areas which may be tripped over)
- Take care when performing duties to ensure no exposure to risk of harm to self, colleague, visitor or any other person
- Report health and safety hazards, unsafe acts or any unsafe issues in the workplace immediately to Supervisor / Safety Representative
- Report injury incurred in the workplace immediately
- Participate in all OHS training when provided
- Wear protective clothing as provided at all times
- Read and understand health and safety information provided in the workplace
- Provide input to the review Hazard Assessments in Task Risk Assessment
- Complete OHS registers assigned
- Complete Daily Safety Task Analysis and Tool checks
- Participate in Toolbox Talks
Key Skills and Experience
- Grade 12
- Min 2 year maintenance working experience in a built environment
- Computer literate in MS Office
- Good comprehension of English / Afrikaans language
- Valid code 08 driver’s license
- Knowledge of pre-planned maintenance services
- Knowledge of safety, fire and emergency procedures
- Knowledge of basic plumbing, HVAC, electrical and construction
