Experienced Phlebotomist

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood draws with expertise, employing both straight and butterfly needles, ensuring minimal discomfort to patients.
  • Accurately label and process specimens, preparing them for analysis or storage, following stringent protocols to maintain specimen integrity.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including centrifuges and specimen storage facilities; troubleshoot any technical issues.
  • Adhere strictly to OSHA and DEP guidelines to ensure a safe and compliant work environment.
  • Update and verify patient information to maintain an error-free database, essential for accurate diagnostic results.
  • Interact professionally with patients, explaining procedures clearly and addressing any concerns to reassure and inform.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes without error, ensuring correct processing and analysis.
  • Provide telephone support, responding to inquiries and discussing laboratory results with authorized individuals.
  • Participate in annual training sessions to stay current with the latest standards and technologies.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Valid Phlebotomy Certification in Texas or applicable state licensure as required.
  • Minimum of 6 months' experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital environment performing venipunctures.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for record keeping and documentation.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 2+ years of professional experience, preferably with some background in OBGYN settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a supervisory role or a position that required training new staff.
  • Advanced certifications in phlebotomy or related fields.
  • Proven track record of improving lab procedures or patient handling protocols.
