Executive Project Manager

Location: Remote (East Coast Preferred) Up to 50% Travel

Our client is a nationally recognized leader in energy performance contracting, engineering, and infrastructure solutions, delivering complex design-build and energy efficiency projects for commercial, institutional, utility, and government clients. Known for executing large-scale, high-impact projects, they partner with organizations to improve facility performance, reduce operating costs, and deliver innovative energy and infrastructure solutions.

As they continue to expand their Energy Division, they are seeking an experienced Executive Project Manager to oversee a portfolio of complex energy and infrastructure projects while leading multiple project management teams responsible for successful construction execution from preconstruction through project completion.




Overview

The Executive Project Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, execution, and financial performance of a portfolio of large-scale energy and infrastructure projects. This senior leadership role oversees project managers and construction teams while ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and aligned with client expectations.

Working closely with business development, engineering, estimating, procurement, and construction teams, this individual plays a critical role in project planning, staffing, contract negotiations, risk management, financial oversight, and client relationship management. Success in this role requires exceptional construction leadership, strategic decision-making, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects while developing high-performing teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the successful execution of a portfolio of complex energy performance and infrastructure projects from preconstruction through completion.
  • Collaborate with Account Executives and Solutions Executives during preconstruction to evaluate project constructability, staffing requirements, construction schedules, pricing strategies, and risk mitigation plans.
  • Oversee multiple project management and construction teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Maintain overall accountability for project financial performance, including budgets, forecasting, cost reporting, revenue projections, cash flow, and change order management.
  • Lead contract negotiations with clients, subcontractors, and project partners while protecting project profitability and client satisfaction.
  • Develop staffing strategies and provide leadership through hiring, coaching, mentoring, performance management, and professional development of project management teams.
  • Serve as the primary executive point of contact for project teams, clients, and internal leadership throughout project execution.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while identifying opportunities for future projects and long-term business partnerships.
  • Collaborate with engineering, estimating, procurement, and construction teams to develop and implement successful construction execution strategies.
  • Monitor project schedules, safety, quality, financial performance, and risk management across the project portfolio.
  • Participate in executive-level client meetings, project reviews, strategic planning initiatives, and internal leadership discussions.

Leadership & Team Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and develop project managers while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence.
  • Build high-performing multidisciplinary teams across engineering, estimating, procurement, operations, and construction.
  • Promote proactive communication and collaboration between internal departments, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
  • Drive consistent project execution standards across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Influence operational strategy and continuous improvement initiatives while supporting organizational growth.


Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 12+ years of experience managing complex construction, MEP, ESCO, or energy infrastructure projects.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience managing project management teams.
  • Proven success leading multiple large-scale, technically complex projects simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, controls, lighting, water systems, power generation, and integrated building systems.
  • Deep knowledge of commercial construction processes, design-build delivery, permitting, and construction methodologies.
  • Extensive experience negotiating contracts with clients and subcontractors.
  • Strong understanding of construction risk management and mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of labor compliance requirements and subcontractor management.
  • Experience working with federal agencies, utilities, or large institutional clients is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional financial acumen with experience managing project budgets, forecasting, profitability, and change orders.
  • Strong communication, presentation, leadership, and relationship management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, ERP systems, and project management software.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50%.


Work Environment
  • Fully remote position.
  • Strong preference for candidates located on the East Coast to support collaboration with project teams and clients.
  • Travel up to 50% for client meetings, project sites, and internal leadership activities

  • Successful completion of background checks, drug screening, and professional reference checks required.
  • Positions involving driving require a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
