Role Summary

Reporting to the Senior Director of Estimating & Pre-Construction based in Toronto, the Estimator is pivotal in supporting the company's expansion efforts. The role encompasses various responsibilities, from bidding and tendering to executing construction projects. This position offers a significant opportunity to impact the company's strategic growth by identifying upcoming projects and market opportunities.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyze and interpret project drawings and specifications.
  • Craft tailored estimates and responses for unit rate and lump sum contracts.
  • Engage in bid-build, design-build, and project management tender processes.
  • Contribute to constructability reviews, staging, and scheduling discussions.
  • Compile accurate and well-organized cost estimates and detailed quantity takeoffs.
  • Identify project risks and information gaps, seeking guidance as needed.
  • Develop structured estimate cost breakdowns integrating quantity takeoffs into HeavyBid software.
  • Define work scopes for subcontracting and procure necessary third-party materials.
  • Manage sub-contractor and supplier quotations, ensuring alignment with contract requirements.
  • Engage in tender closing processes and contribute to submitting quotation letters.
  • Foster relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and clients, maintaining a relevant database.
  • Monitor bid advertising platforms and identify potential leads.
  • Contribute to weekly strategic planning and meetings.
  • Support site supervision during periods of lower activity.
  • Achieve team objectives through collaborative efforts.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management.
  • Minimum 3 years of estimating experience, ideally within heavy civil construction contexts.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Strong attention to detail and multitasking abilities, especially under deadline pressures.
  • Competent in technical communications, both written and verbal.
  • A genuine passion for the construction industry.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
