Estimator – Sewer and Watermain (Vaughan, ON)

Summary:

The Estimator – Sewer and Watermain will support the growth of our client’s civil infrastructure division by preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for municipal and private sector underground servicing projects. This role focuses on sewer, watermain, and related earthworks projects, requiring strong technical understanding and cost management skills. The Estimator will report directly to the Chief Estimator and collaborate with project teams to successfully pursue and deliver infrastructure bids within the Greater Toronto Area.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Review, interpret, and analyze drawings, specifications, and geotechnical reports for sewer and watermain projects.
• Prepare and organize detailed quantity takeoffs for underground servicing, road reconstruction, and associated works.
• Develop cost estimates for unit rate and lump sum tenders, including the application of labor, equipment, and material rates specific to underground utilities.
• Coordinate and solicit quotes from sub-contractors and suppliers for materials such as pipe, precast structures, and granulars.
• Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations to ensure compliance with bid and project specifications.
• Participate in bid reviews, tender closings, and post-bid analysis.
• Utilize estimating software (e.g., HeavyBid) to input quantities, pricing, and production rates accurately.
• Identify potential risks, constructability challenges, or scope gaps and communicate findings to senior estimators and project managers.
• Contribute to pre-construction planning, schedule reviews, and constructability assessments.
• Maintain and update cost databases and vendor relationships relevant to sewer and watermain work.
• Support the estimating team with the development and preparation of bid submissions, including proposal letters and project summaries.
• Participate in internal planning and tender strategy meetings.
• Assist with site-level estimating support or cost tracking during slower periods or as required.

Requirements:

• Diploma or degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related discipline.
• Minimum 3 years of estimating experience within sewer and watermain or heavy civil construction.
• Proficiency with estimating software such as HeavyBid and familiarity with municipal tendering processes.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to meet multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and organization skills, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team.
• Solid understanding of local conditions, material pricing, and production rates for underground servicing.
• Demonstrated passion for infrastructure construction and commitment to quality and safety.
