Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Self-Performing Light Civil Estimator to join their Newmarket based team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and proposals for light civil construction projects where the company performs work with its own crews and equipment. The successful candidate will have strong technical knowledge in civil construction methods, productivity analysis, and unit pricing, as well as the ability to collaborate with operations and project management teams to ensure competitive and profitable bids.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs, cost estimates, and pricing for self-performed light civil scopes, including but not limited to:
    • Demolition
    • General Conditions
    • Drywall
    • Flooring
    • Concrete
    • Carpentry
    • Doors & Windows
    • Mechanical (HVAC & Plumbing)
    • Electrical
    • Sitework / Exterior Improvements
  • Develop labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost components for assigned scopes.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documents to prepare comprehensive bid proposals.
  • Collaborate with operations, field supervision, and project managers to validate production rates and cost assumptions.
  • Evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes for accuracy and scope alignment.
  • Assist in developing project schedules and means & methods.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid reviews.
  • Identify risks, opportunities, and value engineering alternatives.
  • Support the handoff of successful bids to project teams, ensuring continuity of scope, pricing, and assumptions.
  • Maintain historical cost data and unit pricing for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of estimating experience in light civil construction, with emphasis on self-performed work.
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction methods, equipment productivity, and crew compositions.
  • Proficiency in estimating software
  • Solid understanding of drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with commitment to accuracy.
  • Degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent work experience).
