Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with ICO and corporate management teams to achieve industry leading environmental performance by managing the development and implementation of environmental procedures, programs, processes, and systems to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements while minimizing or eliminating environmental risks.
  • As the primary point of contact to regulators; Lead periodic reviews and updates to plans and bond estimates, initiate requests for modifications to plans and coordinate responses to regulators with leadership team.
  • Mentor, coach and lead high performance teams of Environment Coordinators, staff and contractors, developing and motivating team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and managed development and succession within the operating group.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection and evaluation of Environmental personnel.
  • Manage and prepare necessary proposal and presentation packages when requested with respect to environmental criteria and participate in presentations as required.
  • Advise senior management on environmental objectives, targets, and metrics and assist the operating group in assessing their environmental performance, including the development, implementation, and management of leading and lagging environmental indicators.
  • Conducts site audits, performs compliance inspections, and prepares verification audits. Participates in complex incident investigations as required.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge of environmental legislation and initiatives.
  • Participate in government, NGO and/or agency activities to be aware of and proactively respond to developing regulatory and legislative initiatives
  • Promote a positive image; represent the Company in industry organizations, agencies, the community at large, and in public meetings and gatherings
  • Provide technical guidance on environmental issues to site operations team on potential problems and opportunities in site compliance, environmental affairs and permitting needs

    Required Experience and Skills:

    • Completion of post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering or related discipline is required.
    • 10+ years of environmental experience in a field-based role is essential.
    • 5+ years of experience in a supervisory or managerial position, preferably in construction or mining operations.
    • Demonstrated Experience in conducting / supervising environmental incident investigations & experience in the development and implementation of environmental program will be highly regarded.
    • Knowledge of environmental protection during construction processes such as erosion and sediment controls, contaminated soils, groundwater, and storm-water management including required permitting and approval processes will be highly regarded.
    • Demonstrated experience in development and implementation of environmental management systems is required.
    • Ability to effectively lead and mentor the development of Environmental professionals to further expand their knowledge, skills, and abilities.
    • Superior written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate and collaborate across the organization.
    • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, GIS, EPA’s NetDMR system. Ability to operate off road vehicles and have a valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements:

Some exposure to workplace hazards associated with a remote mine and mill site and chemical processing operations in Idaho. Extremes of temperature and exposure to precipitation possible. Walking on uneven ground or in winter conditions requiring caution. May spend >50% of time at operations sites. Travel could range up to 25% depending upon regulator issues and needs.
