Environmental Engineer
The Environmental Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing environmental compliance programs at our cement plant and aggregate quarries. This includes ensuring adherence to local, state, and federal environmental regulations, managing environmental permits, conducting environmental impact assessments, and leading initiatives to reduce the environmental footprint of our operations.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)
- Provide applied leadership and technical expertise on environmental compliance issues related to cement, and aggregate manufacturing plants and quarries.
- Provide training to Capitol Aggregate personnel on key environmental issues, environmental requirements and compliance.
- Interact with the plant personnel and company management to communicate environmental requirements, identify compliance issues, implement compliance requirements, and act as a technical resource
- Provide engineering solutions to environmental issues, including permitting, pollution prevention, environmental regulatory compliance, training, inspections, reporting, auditing, and contractor compliance
- Perform statistical analysis, prepare reports, maintain appropriate compliance records, and file required documents with various regulatory agencies within stated deadlines
- Assist on plant-specific or company-specific environmental issues, as needed
- Provide regulatory compliance assistance for the management and maintenance of all CEMS systems.
- Responsibility for data acquisition and reporting of CEMS and other data required for demonstration of compliance.
- Responsible for completing area audits.
- Always maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
- Responsible for abiding by and supporting all company and plant safety policies, rules and procedures as well as M.S.H.A regulations.

Required Skills and Abilities
- Must have excellent computer skills - Computer literacy in Microsoft applications.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in environmental monitoring tools and software.
Education & Experience
- BA/BS degree in environmental engineering, environmental science or related field.
- 3-5 years’ experience in environmental management, preferably in cement, aggregates, or related industries.
- Experience in all environmental medias including air (NSR, NSPS, Title V, & NESHAP), solid & hazardous waste management (RCRA), drinking & wastewater (SDWA, CWA, NPDES), and hazardous materials management (EPCRA) required.
Other Qualifications
- Knowledge of Environmental Regulations
- Knowledge of environmental monitoring and data acquisition systems (CEMS, COMS, DAS) preferred.
- Ability to listen and understand information presented through spoken words.
- Ability to communicate information in speaking.
- Ability to read and understand information presented in writing.
- Ability to communicate effectively using appropriate interpersonal skills.
- Ability to supervise own work and be self-motivated.
- Ability to abide by company safety policies and procedures and to work safely within a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to occasionally travel (including overnight) up to one (1) week at a time.
