Environmental & Energy Law Associate

We are seeking an Associate to join our Environment & Energy Practice Group, located in either Philadelphia, PA, or Newark, NJ. This vital role will play an essential part in continuing the legacy of excellence in environmental law. The position covers a broad array of environmental matters, often involving complex litigation and regulatory advice. Candidates should be prepared to deal with actions under Federal or State environmental laws, contributing top-tier legal analysis and advocacy in support of our clients' interests. Special emphasis is placed on litigation involving Superfund, Natural Resource Damages (NRD), or toxic torts.

Salary: $300,000.00 - $500,000.00 per year

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Advise clients on environmental regulatory compliance, including state and federal environmental laws.
  • Represent clients in environmental litigation, particularly involving Superfund, NRD, and toxic tort matters.
  • Prepare and review legal documents and reports thoroughly and accurately.
  • Conduct complex research and analysis on legal problems related to environmental law.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure a coherent approach towards common goals.
  • Negotiate with governmental agencies to settle claims against clients.
  • Stay updated with changes in environmental laws and regulations.
  • Participate in business and community events to build and maintain a network of contacts.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • 3-5 years of experience in environmental law involving litigation, regulatory, or transactional work.
  • Knowledge of Federal and State environmental legislation and regulations.
  • Excellent writing and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Active bar admission in PA or NJ preferred but not required.
  • Strong research skills using both traditional and electronic sources.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience in handling Superfund, NRD, or toxic tort litigation.
  • Bar admissions in both Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
  • Proven track record of effective client counseling and management.
  • Documented success in earlier environmental law cases.
  • Prior association with high-profile environmental law cases or projects.
  • Connection with relevant environmental agencies and non-profit organizations.
