JOB SUMMARY
The EHS Manager will oversee the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) also referred to as Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) program at the Des Plaines facility, ensuring compliance with ISO 14001, ISO 45001, state, and federal regulations. This position will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the EHS program, including performance monitoring, training, audits, contractor oversight, and emergency response planning. This role requires fostering a proactive EHS culture through continuous improvement, risk assessments, and effective safety measures across all levels of the facility.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Oversee the daily operations of the Des Plaines facility’s EHS and ISO 14001/45001 programs, ensuring compliance with company standards and external regulations.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations. Maintain and update all safety and environmental permits and records. Conduct regular audits and inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with EHS policies and standards.
- Collect, analyze, and report EHS performance data to management, ensuring transparency and driving continuous improvement.
- Develop and deliver local EHS training programs, conduct tool shop talks, and promote a proactive safety culture among employees.
- Ensure contractors on-site adhere to EHS due diligence and operational controls, complying with both company policies and applicable state and federal regulations.
- Lead investigations of EHS incidents, implement corrective actions, and ensure continuous improvement through root cause analysis.
- Conduct risk assessments for changes impacting the EHS management system, ensuring appropriate control measures are in place before implementation.
- Manage and update EHS documents within the HQMS system, working closely with the document coordinator to ensure compliance.
- Address and resolve EHS issues identified during audits, through feedback, or from worker concerns, implementing necessary corrective and preventive actions.
- Manage the Emergency Preparedness and Response/Crisis Management plan, conducting annual checks and simulations to ensure readiness.
- Schedule and conduct regular EHS management reviews, ensuring follow-up on action items and continuous improvement in the facility’s safety performance.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
- Manage and maintain permits related to electrical work, confined spaces, hot work, and other operational tasks, ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Liaise with US Compliance to ensure the EHS compliance register is current and up to date, meeting all state and federal requirements.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date SDS library using software for hazardous materials used at the Des Plaines facility.
- Host and manage EHS audits by customers, Eagle Certification (Registrar), and other external parties, ensuring smooth audit processes and addressing audit findings.
- Provide EHS support to company manufacturing and distribution sites working with site safety teams to implement best practices as designated by corporate safety.
- Other duties as assigned.

· No direct reports
POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Regular attendance is expected and required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree in Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
· Certification or demonstrated experience with ISO 14001. ISO 45001 experience preferred, but not required.
· Minimum 5 years of experience managing EHS programs in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
· Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
· Proven ability to lead investigations, develop corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement.
· Excellent communication and training skills with the ability to engage employees at all levels.
SKILLS (Language, Mathematical, Reasoning, Other)
· Strong organizational and time-management skills.
· Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams.
· Excellent analytical and reporting abilities.
· Familiarity with EHS management software and reporting systems.
· Support and implement EHS programs at company sites as determined by management.
· Bilingual is a plus
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND/OR REGISTRATIONS
· Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or other relevant certifications are preferred.
