Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP of Operations and/or Director of AMD and Engineering for one of the largest and most experienced crane and heavy transport businesses in North America.
The Engineering Manager’s main functions are to perform engineering assessments, heavy-lift and heavy-transport planning, and to develop structural / mechanical designs related to heavy-lifting and rigging operations on a wide range of projects. In addition, the candidate will oversee junior-level engineers and will help train and develop their engineering skill sets. Most of the work will be designing or consulting on load and weight distribution of oversized and overweight objects for transport and installation. Position requires thorough working knowledge of civil/structural design and engineering techniques. Responsible for planning and conducting independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures and criteria. Devise new approaches to problems, and prepare or modify drawings, specifications, calculations, charts and graphs, and monitor work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and company standards. Oversee and train subordinate engineers to form a cohesive engineering team. Responsibilities include: Evaluate equipment to determine load bearing capability / capacity; Evaluate proposals to determine and solve challenges; Perform structural design and analysis calculations using governing codes and standards, engineering formulas, skills, and experience; Layout and detail portions of projects using schematic layout by project lead engineer. May be assigned responsibility for schematic or conceptual layouts when required; Produce drawings for engineered solutions, crane lifts, heavy transport projects, and other rigging evolutions; produce sketches to incorporate in drawings by Designers/Drafters; Research design options and document findings for project lead engineer; Review company drawings; Assume the lead engineer’s role on assigned projects as needed; May serve as Project Engineer and as a designated Client contact on smaller, less complex projects; Develop probable construction cost estimates for his/her projects within the department; Direct and supervise other Drafters’ activities; Design equipment for use in the Rigging and Transportation industry; specify and design OSHA required below-the-hook device load testing; Coordinate with and consult with other workers to design, layout, or detail components and systems and to resolve design or other problems; Review and analyze specifications, sketches, drawings, ideas, and related data to assess factors affecting component designs and the procedures and instructions to be followed.

Background Required:
  • Mechanical, civil, and/or structural engineering experience (min 5-7 years)
  • Experience with large / heavy lifts, statics and determining load paths
  • Perform manual and computer aided calculations
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Spreadsheets, and Database)
  • Education: BS degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Structural) from ABET accredited university
  • Location: Denver, CO (relocation assistance may be provided)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Knowledge of heavy-load transportation, cranes and crane operations, and/or the heavy rigging industry
  • AutoCAD or related software
  • Knowledge of finite-element analysis (FEA) methods and software suites
  • Knowledge of soils and geotechnical engineering topics (ground bearing capacity, load spreading methods, etc.)
  • Licensed SE, PE
  • Knowledge of 29 CFR 1926, Section 1400 (OSHA Subpart CC), the ASME B30 standards (particularly B30.1, B30.5, B30.9, B30.20, B30.26, BTH-1, and P30.1)
