Job Description
SUMMARY: This position is responsible for working with Sales, Operations, and Pre-Production teams to utilize and/or improve upon existing processes in the implementation of new products. The Product Development Engineer will also use engineering and problem-solving principles to determine effective process windows during the various stages of the APQP process. The Product Development Engineer will take ownership and project management roles in each NPI (APQP Process) assigned to him.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Communicate with new and existing customers for needs assessment, follow-up, refine project requirements, and ensure design solutions meet customer expectations.
- Utilize technical products and application knowledge to assist the operation and/or sales team.
- Review incoming RFQs for technical and functional feasibility; make suggestions to provide the customer with the ultimate solution for the application.
- Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments including scheduling, resolving, engineering design and test issues.
- Project Manager tasks for the APQP stages to ensure NPIs can meet customer needs and target deadlines.
- Confer with appropriate personnel to help ensure efficient production methods are implemented on new products (pre-production launches).
- Provide customers with requested/required information for design and approvals.
- Anticipate business changes, identify and introduce new ideas and solutions to create efficiency and improved processes in operation.
- Coordinate activities concerned with technical developments including designs of experiments, controlled experiments and vendor sample requests.
- Determine most efficient production methods to be implemented at new product launches.
- Work closely with chemists to ensure sufficient material testing is performed for implementation of new products.
- Set up and execute controlled experiments and designs of experiments for new or existing products.
- Design projects must be managed to specific phases or aspects such as: Input, Output, Verification and Validation.
- Evaluate, design and document processes for new equipment purchased by Precix.
- Complete engineering change notice(s) or other required documentation.
- Plan and develop experimental test programs.
- Evaluate and approve design changes, specification and drawing releases.
- Evaluate, test, and implement alternative products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Participate in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay apprised of new development in field.
- Utilize company data acquisition sources to evaluate processes and suggest/implement improvements.
- Confer with appropriate personnel to help ensure efficient production methods are implemented on new products (pre-production launches).
- Work with manufacturing plants to resolve any product issues; confer with workers in other departments to provide technical information.
- Prepare and present interim and complete project reports to senior management and others as necessary.
- Act as a lean advocate, driving and participating in regular, continuous improvement activities.
- Maintain that safety protocols and environmental impacts are reviewed to meet any applicable standards.
- Perform other duties as required or requested.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering curriculum or equivalent.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Project management skills, strong organization skills and analytical skills.
- SolidWorks and / or 3D Engineering Software (Minimum 5 years).
- Proficient, with MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Must be able to work closely with Quantity, Operations, Maintenance, Machine Shop, IT, Sales/Marketing, Finance etc. and be able to communicate effectively to coordinate projects/tasks.
