Location: Remote / Hybrid, based in Connecticut (work from home with site visits & client meetings)
Our client is a leader in advancing energy efficiency, decarbonization, and demand-side management programs across the commercial and industrial sector. As an Energy Engineer, you will support utility-sponsored energy efficiency and research programs by conducting on-site assessments, developing savings calculations, and producing high-quality technical documentation. This hands-on, client-facing role combines fieldwork with engineering analysis, making it ideal for a technically skilled professional passionate about driving sustainability and real-world energy savings.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct independent site visits at commercial and industrial facilities to identify and quantify energy-saving opportunities.
- Develop and review savings calculations for prescriptive and custom measures, ensuring accuracy and compliance with program guidelines and TRMs.
- Collaborate with utility clients, program implementers, and trade allies to provide technical support and align with program goals.
- Prepare technical reports, customer-facing documentation, and internal memos summarizing project economics and recommendations.
- Review and validate customer-submitted engineering documentation for incentive eligibility.
- Contribute to research studies, measure characterizations, and white papers that advance program innovation.
- Stay current on emerging technologies, building systems, and industry best practices related to energy efficiency and decarbonization.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings, workshops, and trainings to share findings and support continuous program improvement.
Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Energy Engineering (or related field).
- Hands-on experience in energy efficiency program implementation, consulting, or engineering analysis.
- Proficient in performing site assessments for HVAC, lighting, envelope, and process systems.
- Skilled in energy savings calculations using engineering models, spreadsheets, or simulation tools (e.g., eQUEST, EnergyPlus).
- Familiarity with utility Technical Reference Manuals (TRMs), ASHRAE guidelines, and savings methodologies.
- Ability to analyze utility usage data and perform baseline modeling or end-use disaggregation.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to translate technical findings into actionable insights.
- Proven ability to manage tasks or initiatives independently within tight timelines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; knowledge of Python, R, MATLAB, or other energy modeling tools is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) credential preferred.
Work Authorization / Security Clearance
- Must pass background checks and pre-employment screening.
Work Environment
- Hybrid role based in Connecticut, with regular travel to client sites for assessments and meetings.
