Electrical Project Engineer
Overview: Responsible for ensuring that all Instrument and Electrical [E&I] equipment in the Mill is operational.
Essential Functions of the Job:
- Inspect electrical systems on bulk materials handling equipment and machines & prepare formal reports on the results.
- Manage multiple capital and maintenance projects, including design, purchasing, contract, and construction management, financial and documentation.
- Purchase all project materials and equipment for project completion.
- Provide E&I project-engineering support to the mechanical engineers as needed.
- Supply technical assistance for mechanical equipment failure analysis and preservation.
- Prepare, review and update Mill specifications and notify management of change proposals.
- Troubleshoot electrical power and control systems to identify and correct malfunctions.
- Prepare formal engineering specifications & cost estimates / proposals for equipment or services to upgrade machines.
- Communicate effectively with vendors to obtain information about products and services.
- Provides information, guidance and assistance to drafting personnel for the production of drawings. Reviews drawings for accuracy.
- Produces work within the allotted hours and material budgets, working within the allotted schedule.
- Reviews others work to insure it is compatible with the design and meets contract requirements.
- Communicates the status of the work with Customers. Delivers promised information as indicated.
- Maintains awareness of current state-of-the-art technologies and trends in electrical engineering and suggests product improvement ideas.
- Create and modify microprocessor assembly, ladder type programs, state diagrams, Karnaugh maps and next-state tables.
- Design and apply motors, motor controllers, SCR drives, and AC drives based on speed and torque requirements.
- Conducts him/herself in a manner consistent with safety for all parties (employee, customer, etc.) and promotes safe working practices both for personnel and machines. Promptly notifies customers and subcontractors of unsafe conditions.
- Assist in the attainment of general mill goals by serving on special teams or supplying teams with necessary technical support

Required Experience
- Drive systems, both standalone and coordinated
- PowerFlex DC, AB 1395, and ABB ACS / DCS800 familiarity
- PowerFlex 700, 735, 755 AC drives
- Allen Bradley flat panels, HIMS, COM modules
- AB PLC platforms; PLC5, SLC5, ControlLogix, CompactLogix
- DCS/PLC gateways, AB switches & networks; legacy DH+, and EIP
- Hands-on PLC logic strengths; online programming, offline development
- Modern protective relays like SEL and coordination
- Knowledge on EM relays and coordination
- Motor control center experience GE 8000, 9000, 7160
- Dry type transformer experience
- Medium and low voltage distribution, breakers, vacuum breakers, LI switches
- Fundamental design principles, diagnostics, and training experience
- Oil-filled transformer experience including testing, evaluation, and replacement
- Power generation and control experience
- Combustion control and burner management control familiarity desirable
- Project management- capital, major maintenance, and special projects with outside resources
