Electrical Engineer - Power

PURPOSE: The Electrical Engineer – High Power is responsible for management and maintenance of the mill wide power distribution systems and management of engineering capital/expense projects as assigned at this tissue manufacturing operation in the Southeast US. Additionally, the Electrical Engineer works closely with the local site utilities partner to manage incoming power, lead the site annual outage and is the site representative for energy and water conservation efforts. They will also work closely with E&I Technicians for troubleshooting, maintenance and project work.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide expertise in and management of the mill’s power distribution systems. This includes the main 161kV substation, associated step down substations and infrastructure.
  • Ensure power distribution equipment inspections and repairs are completed according to NFPA 70B standards; this includes all required documentation.
  • Carry out job responsibilities in a safe manner. Review and ensure equipment/processes meet electrical safety codes, policies and guidelines.
  • Develop expertise and lead Arc Flash, National Electrical Code and NFPA 70E requirements and compliance.
  • Implement newest technology approaches that support improved power distribution efficiency, process improvement, and manufacturing flexibility such as SEL power management system.
  • Perform failure analysis of electrical equipment and controls to implement reliability improvement action items.
  • Lead and plan mill wide annual power outages.
  • Develop and conduct training programs with operation, maintenance and engineering personnel to increase knowledge, troubleshooting capability and understanding of the power distribution systems
  • Provide project management (in both a leadership and/or team member capacity) including the development, planning and execution of capital and expense projects as assigned.
  • Effectively track and manage costs within established budgets.
  • Develop and effectively communicate project status reports on an as required basis.
  • Support equipment installation and start-up activities. Provide electrical engineering leadership to resolve problems, troubleshoot, and optimize the installation process to meet project objectives and schedules.
  • Function as site lead for water and energy conservation efforts. This includes facilitating meetings, developing presentations for review with Corporate Leadership, tracking site performance vs objectives, and support develop of new water and energy savings initiatives.
  • Develop knowledge and electrical expertise on tissue manufacturing/converting equipment, plant utilities and supporting equipment
  • Every employee must implement Kruger environmental policy in their daily tasks. In particular, employees are responsible to abide by legal and corporate environmental requirements and must adhere to all environmental procedures. Every employee is responsible to report all environmental incidents and any potential environmental hazards.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • B.S. Electrical Engineering, with a focus on high power distribution
  • 5+ years work experience in technical and industrial manufacturing assignments.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and maintaining power distribution systems up to 161kV.
  • Ability to work independently and implement projects/systems in a cross functional environment
  • Ability to build relationships with vendors and suppliers on a national basis as well as in local areas
  • Hands-on approach, strong understanding of electrical processes combined with technical knowledge
  • Working knowledge of National Electrical Code, Arc Flash, NFPA 70E and 70B
  • Ability to stay educated on the latest computer and software technologies, along with multiple specialty vendor product offerings
  • Ability to plan and lead large mill wide outages
  • Must have a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential information and situations.
  • Ability to plan and organize work activities, manage work time efficiently and work independently
  • Must have proven complex analytical skills as well as the ability to develop sound recommendations and solutions
    • Skilled in MS Office suite, specifically Word, Excel and Project; SAP experience a plus.
