Electrical & Instrumentation Supervisor

The Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising, directing and coordinating the work of all E&I maintenance personnel within the paper mill (1 paper machine, 1 paper web welder, an OCC plant and a power plant). The supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and direction to ensure the safety of the workforce, provide quality and efficient execution of goals, schedule and execute planned work, monitor crew performance, provide problem analysis for equipment history, submit accurate reports of work execution, take appropriate action in response to emergencies, and administer company policies as they relate to assigned personnel.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Requires active leadership and hands-on direction in safety, maintenance, cost management, process improvement, plant scheduling and production flows in a union environment.
  • Crew safety, following NFPA 70E, OSHA, and mill policies.
  • Direct supervision of bargaining unit electrical and instrumentation technicians in the Maintenance Department. This includes, but is not limited to, initiating commendation, initiating corrective action, and writing and presenting performance appraisals.
  • Perform maintenance duties to inspect, plan, schedule work, troubleshoot, and repair defective equipment in a timely manner.
  • For each scheduled job verify that all safety requirements, predetermined equipment, appropriate tools, materials, and the equipment to be maintained are available and ready for the scope of work that is scheduled.
  • Coordinate with the training department to ensure crew members have completed all required training.
  • Accept and execute properly authorized emergency work and maintain a planned backlog for use during unscheduled equipment outages.
  • Monitors the performance and coordinates the key functions in the E&I department.
  • Works closely with Maintenance Manager to ensure work is being accomplished in a quality manner.
  • Communicate work status to operations and solicit feedback.
  • Understand and follow the Bargaining Agreement and the Seniority Work Rules as they relate to personnel coordination.
  • Inspect and promote housekeeping both in the shops and at the job site.
  • Member of the mill management call team.
  • Helps establish plant goals and objectives to align with company roadmap.
  • Utilize maintenance metrics to achieve crew goals as defined.
  • Participate in Root Cause Failure Analysis process with the goal of improving Mill reliability.
  • Communicate appropriately to ensure operations are knowledgeable of maintenance activities through the daily and weekly planning meetings.
  • Manages the daily activities of the E&I crew including planning and scheduling of daily work.
  • Manages, plans, and schedules Paper Machine and Secondary Fiber Outages.
  • Manages and maintains the reliability of the Mill ABB systems. Coordinates the efforts of ABB engineer to ensure reliability of the DCS system, CD weight profiler, and 1190 scanner system.
  • Manages and maintains the reliability of AC and DC motors including coordination and quality control of repairs with rebuild facilities. Specifies when motors will be rebuilt or replaced.
  • Manages positioned valve repair and maintenance.
  • Manages stores item specification, determines and adds critical spares, and removes obsolete items.
  • Manages electrical distribution equipment maintenance.
  • Promotes an integrated work environment between mechanical and E&I craftspeople.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Self-motivated individual with a take-charge attitude and an understanding of personnel management techniques.
  • Understand the capabilities of craftsmen, internal shops and external shops.
  • Use maintenance management systems for reporting, improvements and work status updates.

Qualifications:

  • Previous electrical maintenance supervisory experience in manufacturing is preferred.
  • Working Knowledge of computer based applications ( Outlook , Microsoft Office and Project)
  • Strong understanding of computerized maintenance management systems preferably Maximo
  • Electrical training of 2 years plus preferred or 10 years of experience in field
  • Paper mill experience a plus
