Job Function:
Our client is seeking a communication professional trained and experienced in both RF communication and computer networking. The position requires the candidate to be proficient in the design of First Responder and Utility Critical Radio Communications Systems to include the following:
- Project Requirements Gathering
- Radio System Propagation Analysis
- System Design of RF Infrastructure
- System Design of Communications Dispatch Systems
- Integration of Communications Equipment Including Creating a Bill of Material
- Creating a Closed Computer Network
- Assist in Staging of Configured Systems
- Problem Resolution - Root Cause Analysis
- Ownership of System Acceptance Process from a Technical Perspective
- Develop System Drawings using Various Software Tools
- Assist in Bid Preparation & Oral Technical Presentations
Candidate MUST be familiar with RF Propagation Tools and have experience designing and implementing P25 LMR Radio Systems. Experience with Digital Simulcast Systems and Complex Networks is necessary. RADIO COMMUNICATIONS EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY. Public Safety experience is also desirable.
Duties:
- Creates RF System Design by determining and evaluating project requirements, customer objectives, and analyzing user input. Broad industry knowledge of communications products will allow the successful candidate to integrate a system level solution.
- RF Coverage prediction modeling tools to be utilized in order to ascertain the appropriate number and location of radio communication sites.
- In support of RF communications infrastructure, the Systems Engineer shall design and integrate dispatch communications systems in a critical communications public safety environment. This includes Police 911 Call Centers, Utility Company Call Centers and Control Facilities.
- Based on the System Design, a Bill of Material shall be generated. This shall be the basis for overall system configuration.
- In certain cases, the successful candidate shall be responsible for EITHER the design and prototyping of circuits OR validating circuit design as applied to the System Design.
- Prior to system installation, the SE shall coordinate staging of the system to simulate the installation environment in the lab. This shall serve as a test bed for the system prior to field deployment. The SE controls the staging effort and associated testing.
- During staging, installation, or a maintenance cycle, the SE shall be involved with trouble resolution and determining the root cause of a problem. The System Engineer's involvement shall be outside normal maintenance duties typically handled by technical personnel. When the SE becomes involved with a critical problem, the SE shall work with technical personnel to evaluate the trouble and outline steps to correct the problem or deficiency. An action plan shall be forwarded to technical personnel for implementation. At times, field work may be required.
- Following implementation of a project, the SE shall own system acceptance testing. This may include RF coverage validation including comparison to RF coverage prediction modeling as well as System functional testing and validation of system parameters and equipment specifications. Test plans to be developed by the SE.
- System drawings to be generated using a combination of Visio, AutoCAD, or other tools appropriate to a project. These drawings include terminations, cabinet layouts, elevations, circuit interconnect, antenna systems, etc. Drawings representing typical systems are in template form to assist the SE in developing documentation.
- At times, the SE may be required to assist in bid preparation and oral presentations to customers, suppliers, etc. Use of Microsoft Power Point necessary.
