POSITION SUMMARY: 

 

Responsible for all aspects of tax compliance and planning for both sales and income taxes in Canada and the U.S. Responsible for cash forecasting and optimizing cash and debt levels; assist in the development of optimal capital structure; manage debt levels and  banking relationships; manage foreign exchange exposures and risks.

 

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:

 

Tax:

           Supervise the preparation of sales tax returns (about 50 per month);

           liaise with auditors;

           prepare federal and provincial/state income tax returns; prepare tax working papers for audited financial statements;

           identify and implement tax planning opportunities;

           evaluate and adjust transfer pricing models and practices.

 

Treasury:

           Update and improve short and longer term cash forecasting models;

           Supervise the cash applications team;

           Forecast, monitor and manage cash flow and debt requirements;

           Develop optimal capital structure;

           Identify and manage FX exposures; develop appropriate hedging strategies if          necessary;

           Identify and manage interest swap opportunities; manage interest level tranches within the existing debt structure;

           

Supervisory:

           Supervises one manager and tax staff of one; cash applications staff of 4

           Staff development and career planning focus is important for this area

 

Essential Qualifications:

Minimum education: University Degree; CA highly preferred. CMA with extensive experience; CICA in-depth tax course, or equivalent

 

·         5-10 years post designation experience

·         Knowledge of Canadian and US income taxes.

·         Transfer Pricing

·         Corporate experience (experience with Canada and US branches or HO)

·         Advanced Excel modeling skills.

·         Strong experience with hedging

 

Non-technical skills/abilities: strong analytical and financial modeling skills; ability to manage shifting priorities and multiple deadlines; strong organizational and communication abilities.
