Executive Search Associates is conducting a confidential search for an experienced Director of Surgical Services to provide strategic, operational, and clinical leadership within a community-based hospital environment in Ohio.

This role is ideal for a hands-on perioperative leader who enjoys working closely with physicians, mentoring clinical teams, and driving operational stability in a collaborative surgical setting. The Director will oversee key areas across the perioperative continuum while supporting quality initiatives, staff engagement, and regulatory compliance.

Description

The Director of Surgical Services is responsible for the overall leadership and performance of perioperative operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and patient-centered care.

This leader provides both administrative and clinical oversight across surgical services, partnering with nursing leadership, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and hospital executives to align clinical excellence with organizational goals. The role combines strategic leadership with a strong on-the-floor presence, supporting staff development, operational workflows, and continuous performance improvement.

Daily responsibilities include monitoring operational performance, supporting clinical initiatives, overseeing staffing and resource planning, and fostering a positive team culture within a community hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and oversight across surgical services, including Operating Room, Ambulatory Surgery, PACU, and Sterile Processing.

• Lead departmental performance improvement initiatives and contribute to hospital-wide quality efforts.

• Partner with physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to advance clinical practice standards and patient care initiatives.

• Manage staffing, scheduling, and departmental workflows to support efficient operations.

• Develop and monitor departmental budgets while promoting responsible resource utilization.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards.

• Mentor and support nursing and clinical staff, fostering a collaborative and accountable team culture.

• Maintain high standards of patient safety, service excellence, and operational performance.

• Serve as a visible and accessible leader, supporting both administrative priorities and clinical needs when appropriate.

Requirements

• Current, unrestricted Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license.

• Current BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA).

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

• Minimum two (2) years of supervisory or management experience in a healthcare setting.

• At least two (2) years of surgical nursing experience.

• Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.

Preferred

• CNOR certification.

• PALS certification.

• Leadership experience within a multi-service perioperative environment.

• Experience mentoring and developing early-career nursing staff.
