Director of Supply Chain Management

As a Director of Supply Chain Management at our rapidly expanding company, you will be at the forefront of orchestrating all facets of procurement, acquisition, and distribution processes. Your strategic thinking will be crucial in designing robust systems to support multi-site operations and optimize inventory levels. Your leadership will help mold high-velocity, profitable supply chain operations that meet our competitive strategic objectives, including contract negotiations, supplier diversification, and continuous improvement projects. This role demands a proactive approach to maintaining supplier relationships across market cycles, ensuring easy access to materials and services essential for growth and market lead times.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a supply chain model that integrates production capabilities and market dynamics to safeguard our market positioning and raw materials access.
  • Build and sustain strategic partnerships with suppliers, distributors, and customers to foster clear communication paths and spearhead operational upgrades.
  • Formulate contracts that enhance operational efficiency and ensure timely availability of products, especially in peak demand periods.
  • Negotiate supplier agreements, securing optimal pricing and quality, with annual management responsibility for a spend between $100M and $300M.
  • Drive business system improvements that significantly enhance the value of inventory investments and operational flexibility.
  • Stay informed about commodity pricing and industry trends, translating these insights into actionable business strategies.
  • Oversee and innovate the scrap material resale operations, including management of scrap dealer relationships.
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with new supply sources both domestically and internationally.
  • Conduct thorough supplier evaluations and initiate recovery plans as needed.
  • Support the creation of segmented delivery schedules for long-term manufacturing endeavors.
  • Establish and manage performance indicators for supplier effectivity and supply chain efficiency.
  • Balance inventory strategies to optimize cash flow, maintain supplier relations, and ensure product availability.
  • Provide technical and strategic guidance on supply chain processes to internal teams, enhancing overall industry expertise.
  • Lead educational initiatives within the company to enhance procurement and supply chain knowledge and practices.
  • Facilitate visits to suppliers to assess and confirm their operational and quality compliance with our company standards.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in Operations, Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related technical field.
  • A minimum of 7-10 years progressive experience in Purchasing & Sourcing within a manufacturing setup.
  • At least 2-4 years of recent experience specifically in the Metals Industry.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of steel making, metallurgy, and related manufacturing processes.
  • Proven background in a multi-plant manufacturing setting with direct responsibility for steel purchasing.
  • Practical knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, preferably with JD Edwards experience.
  • Strong project management skills, able to create and follow through with work plans and timetables.
  • Excellent communication capabilities to liaise effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Physical ability to safely perform duties within a heavy manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • ISM (C.P.M., CPSM) and/or APICS (CPIM, CIRM, CSCP) certification.
  • Proven experience in conducting continuous improvement tasks that boost profitability and operational speed.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office applications.
