Grasslands Recruitment Specialists is recruiting a full-time, remote Director of Sales & Marketing for a pioneering Canadian firm in the field of sustainable agriculture. They have developed and produce an unique bio-based OMRI certified liquid nitrogen fertilizer in their proprietary process using the circular economy. They have progressed through the R&D and piloting stages and have an operational scalable facility capable of producing significant volumes of fertilizer product annually. This position is remotely based and can be located in either the US or Canada.

As the primary objective for this role is market penetration and sales growth, ideal candidates will demonstrate a successful track record of sales and business development, relevant experience and an excellent network of contacts in the target industry- the initial scope of work is creating and executing the U.S. market entry business development strategy with a focus on execution.

This new role is an addition to the company’s growing team and will enhance their existing presence in the horticultural marketplace, including field grown, greenhouse grown, controlled environment (CEA) and organic segments.

Our client, a pioneering organization in the field of sustainable agriculture, specializes in producing a revolutionary bio-based liquid nitrogen fertilizer derived from agricultural effluent. Their unique technology addresses a significant challenge in agriculture while creating an exceptional product for organic crops of several types.

Their headquarters and manufacturing facility are in Canada, with the United States being their primary target market. Their product holds OMRI certification in the U.S. They are on an exceptionally solid financial foundation, and have recently completed their first large-capacity plant – a project exceeding $30 million, enabling them to produce millions of gallons of fertilizer. With the financial means to construct several additional facilities, their technology also positions them to effortlessly introduce new products in the future.

Projected growth plans are to achieve significant revenues, and the capability and technology to surpass these expectations are in place. This Director of Sales & Marketing will play a key role in realizing their ambitious goals by ‘rolling up their sleeves’ and executing the plan with a proactive and results-driven approach.


The essential objective of this role is to formulate a dynamic business development strategy geared towards swift execution, demonstrating the ability to achieve rapid results in establishing commercial agreements and initiating sales for the bio-based nitrogen liquid fertilizer product in the United States. Initially, the Director will be responsible for personally generating sales and opportunities while contributing to the build-out of the sales & marketing department.

Key deliverables include:

  • Leveraging of existing industry networks and knowledge when developing a strategy for rapid market penetration.
  • Development of pricing strategies that balance aggressiveness and volume with profitability, identifying pricing models that attract customers without compromising long-term sustainability.
  • Establishment of appropriate and swift commercial agreements that lead to immediate sales, highlighting key steps, potential challenges and how to expedite the negotiation process.
  • Proactive sales initiatives, progressing beyond strategy formulation, successfully navigating challenges, and capitalizing on opportunities swiftly and effectively.
  • Creation of an optimal US market development team.


The ideal candidate profile includes:

  • Extensive (10 years +) experience in sales and market development in fertilizers or closely related agricultural products.
  • Deep industry knowledge and a strong network of contracts within the appropriate sector(s).
  • Proven history of sales strategy development and execution, including skills in market data analysis to inform sales tactics and strategic planning.
  • Leadership in a ‘start-up-minded’, entrepreneurial high-growth environment.
  • Educational background in business, marketing, agriculture etc., with advanced degrees or certifications favoured.
