About the Company
Our client is a category-leading public safety software organization transforming how fire, EMS, law enforcement, and emergency management agencies turn data into action. Their common operating platform and community-facing applications help agencies understand risk, manage incidents, and communicate clearly with the public—using authoritative, trusted data.
The company is in the midst of a major platform modernization: rebuilding core products, expanding mobile and community applications, and scaling to support the largest and most complex public safety agencies in the country. To accelerate this transformation, they are seeking a Director of Product Management who can translate vision into execution and own product outcomes end-to-end.
If you thrive in ambiguity, lead with clarity, and are motivated by accountability—this is the role.
Position Overview
As Director of Product Management, you will own the overarching product vision and strategy for the company’s platform, including:
-
The core operational platform used by public safety agencies
-
A new suite of community / citizen-facing applications
-
The data, analytics, and integration capabilities that power real-time workflows
You will build and lead the product management function, partner closely with Engineering, UX, Sales, Customer Success, and key agency leaders, and ensure the company consistently ships products trusted by field users who depend on them in high-stakes environments.
This role blends strategic leadership with hands-on execution. You must be equally comfortable driving long-term roadmap direction and writing crisp, testable user stories.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Vision
-
Define and maintain a multi-year product vision and roadmap aligned with company priorities and go-to-market strategy.
-
Translate strategy into clear bets, milestones, and measurable outcomes across the platform and community applications.
-
Monitor the competitive landscape across public safety tech and public-facing applications to ensure strong differentiation.
Leadership & Team Development
-
Build, mentor, and scale a high-performing product management team.
-
Establish product frameworks and processes including discovery, prioritization, roadmapping, planning, and reviews.
-
Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and open feedback across cross-functional teams.
Roadmap & Delivery Execution
-
Own the full product lifecycle from discovery through launch, adoption, and iteration.
-
Partner closely with Engineering and UX to scope and deliver releases on realistic timelines.
-
Make data-driven prioritization decisions using criteria such as customer value, operational impact, risk, effort, and strategic alignment.
-
Ensure user stories, requirements, and acceptance criteria are clear, testable, and grounded in real workflows.
Customer & Market Engagement
-
Build strong relationships with public safety leaders, agency stakeholders, and front-line users.
-
Lead customer discovery, roadmap discussions, and feedback loops to ensure real-world relevance.
-
Translate customer insight into practical product decisions—not feature wish lists.
Metrics & Outcomes
-
Define product success metrics including adoption, usage, retention, time-to-value, NPS/CSAT, and operational impact.
-
Use quantitative and qualitative data to validate assumptions, refine features, and prioritize roadmap focus areas.
-
Partner with GTM teams to ensure launches are supported with positioning, pricing, enablement, and clear value stories.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
-
Work with Sales & Marketing to position the platform effectively against competitors and non-authoritative data providers.
-
Collaborate with Customer Success and Support to close the loop on feature requests, bugs, and customer outcomes.
-
Support executive leadership with strategic customers, partnerships, and major deployments.
Required Qualifications
-
8+ years of B2B or B2G SaaS product management experience
-
3+ years in a leadership role managing PMs or owning major product lines
-
Demonstrated success shipping complex products end-to-end with iterative improvement
-
Strong partnership experience with engineering and UX in an Agile environment
-
Analytical rigor across product metrics, cohorts, experimentation, and qualitative synthesis
-
Excellent communication skills across executives, engineers, and end users
-
Experience prioritizing and aligning diverse stakeholders
-
Background in public safety, emergency management, GovTech, or similar mission-critical operational domains
-
Experience with geospatial / map-centric products or real-time operational dashboards
Preferred Experience
-
Mobile-first or citizen-facing applications at scale
-
Familiarity with government procurement and working with state/local agencies
-
Experience in high-growth or turnaround environments where process and product must be built in parallel
Success Metrics (12–18 Months)

A clear, widely adopted product strategy and roadmap
-
A respected and high-functioning product management team
-
Delivered improvements that drive measurable increases in adoption, usage, and satisfaction
-
Strong reference customers showcasing real operational impact
-
A disciplined, data-driven product practice that balances speed, quality, and customer trust
