Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the President and COO for a distributor of specialty building materials including roofing, cladding, windows, and doors. They serve builders and contractors, with 8 locations between Michigan and Ohio. Has a private fleet of 150 vehicles. First established in 1936, currently does $200 Million in revenue and has over 300 associates.
The Director of Logistics and Fleet is responsible for the optimization of the company fleet, warehouse, and delivery operations. They will work closely with the President and COO as well as the VP Operations. They will collaborate with senior leadership in determining strategic business objectives for Logistics. They will then develop and execute plan to achieve those goals. Identify operational benchmarks and improvement opportunities. Responsible for the overall productivity and measurements related to dispatching the company fleet. Supervise rollout, maintenance, and improvement of fleet. Ensure high level of internal customer satisfaction is maintained. Make sure logistics complies with DOT, OSHA, and other external regulations. The goal is to increase revenue, optimize costs, and maximize profitability.

Background Required:
  • Transportation Management (5 yrs minimum)
  • Multi-Site Management (5 yrs)
  • Fleet Management (150 vehicles minimum, safety, procurement)
  • Operations Management (Routing, scheduling, continuous improvement)
  • People Management (recruit, train, develop, mentor, retain, performance evaluations)
  • Fleet maintenance management (preventative maintenance, repairs, warranties)
  • Set, meet, and exceed key performance initiatives (KPIs)
  • DOT, OHSA, and HOS (expert knowledge)
  • Dispatching
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Excel Advanced User, and logistics software proficient
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
  • Residence: Metro Detroit, MI (Relocation assistance provided)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Contractor industry knowledge
  • CTP certification (Certified Transportation Professional)
  • Technology: Descartes, Fleetio, Geotab, Sygic and MobileLink
  • Bachelor’s Degree Supply Chain or Logistics Degree
