Location: Atlanta, GA   Specialization: Land Surveying

Director of Land Surveying

Location: Atlanta, GA

About the Opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Land Surveying to lead and grow a thriving survey practice within a nationally recognized civil engineering and land development firm. This is a high-impact leadership role — ideal for a Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) with deep technical expertise, proven team leadership, and a passion for building capability across both field and office functions.

What You’ll Do:
As Director of Land Surveying, you will:

  • Lead and mentor a talented team of survey professionals (current staff ~10, including field crews and office surveyors/technicians).

  • Oversee all survey execution for land/site development engineering projects — boundary, ALTA/NSPS, topographic, construction stakeout, utility, and specialty surveying.

  • Ensure exceptional quality, accuracy, and QA/QC standards in all survey deliverables.

  • Collaborate with civil engineering leaders to integrate survey data into design workflows and project delivery.

  • Leverage technology and innovation (including UAV/drone data collection) to enhance efficiency and services.

  • Drive continuous improvement in procedures, tools, and training across field and office teams.

  • Balance oversight of multiple crews and priorities with sound decision-making, exceptional client service, and team development.

  • Optional engagement in business development — though no significant marketing requirement is expected unless desired by the candidate.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) in Georgia (or ability to obtain quickly).

  • 15+ years of progressive surveying experience with increasing responsibility.

  • Proven success in leading survey teams, with the ability to make strong operational and technical decisions.

  • Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding client expectations — quality deliverables, on-time performance, and responsive communication.

  • Experience with modern survey technologies (GPS, robotic total stations, LiDAR, UAS/drone integration).

  • Strong working knowledge of surveying software and CAD platforms (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent).

  • Ability to support expanded service lines; experience with DOT-related survey work (e.g., Georgia DOT) is a significant plus.

Why This Role Matters:
This position is built for a strategic survey leader who wants to shape, build, and elevate a surveying practice that supports a busy and respected civil engineering organization. You’ll have the autonomy to refine processes, grow technical capability, and be a key partner to engineering leadership — without the expectation of heavy business development if you prefer to focus on operations and team growth.

You’ll Thrive Here If You Are:

  • A confident decision-maker with a steady leadership approach.

  • Excited to mentor, develop, and retain high-performing talent.

  • Passionate about excellence in land surveying and leveraging new technologies.

  • Looking for a role where your contributions directly impact operational success and future growth.
