Currently seeking a talented and dedicated Director of Laboratory for a great opportunity in the Montgomery, AL area. The ideal candidate will possess 5+ years of current experience working in an acute care hospital in the Emergency Trauma department and 3+ years of experience working in a Laboratory Department in a leadership role.
Responsibilities of the Director of Laboratory
- Integrates Clinical Laboratory services with the primary functions of the medical center and hospital
- Demonstrates a complete understanding of the role the clinical laboratory serves in the provision of quality healthcare
- Maintains appropriate compliance with regulatory standards, i.e. CAP, AABB, JCAHO, CLIA and HCFA, Commonwealth of Virginia
- Coordinates and directs daily operations including decision-making, responses to problems, identifying errors and taking corrective action.
- Provides direct supervision of non-technical staff and operational supervision of technical staff in cooperation with clinical coordinators and supervisors, including scheduling, counseling, and disciplinary action

- Recommends the sufficient number of qualified and competent persons necessary to provide appropriate laboratory service.
- Adheres to proper resource allocation and coordination
- Maintains lab material management system controls departmental supply expense
- Understands, respects and adheres to guidelines set forth in Lab Billing Compliance Plan
- Attends Annual Billing Compliance Training and Annual Ethics Training
- Demonstrates working knowledge and understanding of safety principles
Requirements of the Director of Laboratory
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Medical Technology or other Clinical Science area is required
- Master’s Degree is preferred
- National Certification in medical technology from ASCP/NCA or similar body
- 5 years’ experience in a medical laboratory in a short-term acute care hospital environment
- 3 years’ laboratory management experience is required
