Director of Laboratory Services

Western Colorado

Our client is a full-service, acute care hospital licensed for 60 beds. As part of the Colorado West Healthcare System, we are a Level III Trauma Center that offers full outpatient diagnostic services and inpatient care for the Western Slope region of Colorado and eastern Utah. They bring together expert staff and world-class technology in a healing, family-centered environment.


Our laboratory is College of American Pathologists-accredited. For those lab tests that we do not conduct on site, the Mayo Clinic is our exclusive partner for reference laboratory services.


A new four-story, 140,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility opened just a few short years ago.

The Director of Laboratory Services is responsible for the day to day operations of the clinical laboratory. This position reports to the COO/CNO, but works closely with all Department Directors/Managers, and Executive Leadership and Administration to provide effective oversight of all aspects of the clinical laboratory. Priorities include quality and service excellence, which focuses on patient, staff and physician satisfaction.

Here are the primary duties of the Director of Laboratory Services:

  • Directs, establishes, and plans the overall policies and goals for a hospital's laboratory services.
  • Works closely with hospital staff, department directors, and physicians to ensure the highest standards of quality and service are maintained.
  • Responsible for improving quality and clinical performance, maintaining compliance with all federal/state regulations and company policies.
  • Organize and facilitate department activities to deliver high quality care using standards based practice.
  • Recruit, grow, and lead a high-performing team. Build and sustain a positive and energetic culture within the organization.
  • Execute fiscal responsibilities, ensuring that the department’s budget is correctly formulated and services are delivered within productivity measures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field;
  • Medical Technologist Certification;
  • MHA or MBA in healthcare preferred;
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with peers and leadership;
  • Proven ability to bring excellent business acumen and resourcefulness to the management of the lab;
  • Knowledge of quality assurance procedures and practices; and
  • Minimum 5 years Management/Leadership experience.
