ROLE PURPOSE

The Director of Housing is responsible for operationalizing strategy so that the client has the diverse housing portfolio necessary to support the organization’s current teams and service users, as well as its future strategic direction. This includes acquiring and renovating property, strategizing asset management and tenant relations, and leading the Infrastructure team to ensure that our assets are well managed to provide safe, clean, and comfortable environments for service users, staff, and visitors.

WORK HOURS

40 hours per week; Monday to Friday, 0830 - 1630

Note: This position can be performed remotely, and we encourage applicants from across British Columbia (location is not restricted to Vancouver).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads the Infrastructure team of asset management and property management staff to ensure that assets are well managed and property needs are met.
  • Strategizes the expansion and revision of the client’s diverse property portfolio to best support service delivery and align with strategic goals.
  • Coordinates professionals such as brokers, bankers, property assessors, and real estate agents.
  • Guides and interprets housing data collection to inform policy, operations, asset management, funder reporting, and strategic planning.
  • Develops strategies for key processes and systems across owned and leased properties.
  • Oversees and coordinates the insurance portfolio, including managing the client's relationship with insurance professionals.
  • Develops and coordinates a comprehensive risk management strategy for real property risks across the organization.
  • Devises continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for improvement in costs, customer service, and assets.

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • A Bachelor’s degree, diploma and/or trade certificate in a relevant discipline or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 7 years of recent experience with managing a large housing portfolio, building relationships, and systems thinking.
  • Strong leadership experience and ability to manage and coordinate a cross-functional team.
  • Demonstrated commitment to a high level of customer service.
  • Flexibility to travel throughout the client’s operating locations.
  • High proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite as well as experience working with other technologies and software.
  • Strong communication skills (listening, verbal, and written).
  • Preference for candidates with knowledge of non-profit work environments, especially across the housing spectrum (i.e. shelters, transitional housing, supportive housing, and below-market rentals).
