Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Commercial Manager or VP Operations of a leading supply chain service company to the chemical industry. They take pride in maintaining high standards for safety, compliance, and customer services. Their supply chain platform is uniquely positioned to provide a complete line of service offerings for the chemical industry. The company has an extensive network of 25 terminals and 16 warehousing/packaging facilities nationwide with a fleet of more than 1,200 trucks and 1,800 trailers. Delivers a 360-degree supply chain suite with offerings that span bulk and liquid transportation, to warehousing and rail storage, to in-plant services, ISO intermodal and more.
The Director of Drayage is responsible for managing the execution, direction, and coordination of all drayage matters across all company businesses. The Director of Drayage must be well-versed in all aspects of drayage and intermodal transportation, including working with ports, intermodal ramps, container yards, chassis management, DOT weight limitations and compliance, and operational understanding of FMCSA safety requirements. This role will be responsible for planning, partner carrier management, owner operator sourcing and management, and potentially asset sourcing, scheduling, dispatch operations, driver management, equipment management and development of the people, processes, technology required to support the growth of the organization. The ideal candidate will execute strategic planning and forward thinking to meet or exceed service level requirements of customers.

  • Multimodal knowledge (Drayage, Intermodal, Dry Van, LTL, Drayage, Ocean, Bulk, transloading, warehousing)
  • Develop, meet, and exceed Key Performance Indicators
  • Manage, develop, and retain strong talent
  • High level relationship management with drayage and intermodal organizations (negotiations of rates, scorecards)
  • Chemical manufacturers, broker, distribution, and customer relationships
  • Travel: 60%
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Office
  • Education: High school degree
  • Residence: Houston, TX, Chicago, IL Charleston, SC, or Savannah, GA
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • TMS, WMS, CRM, and/or Microsoft Dynamics knowledge
  • Shipper side experience in chemical industry
  • Drayage technology
  • ISM or APICS certified
  • Project Management (Lean Exposure or equivalent)
  • Bi-Lingual: Spanish
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree
