Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Vice President of a multi-million-dollar third party provider of global logistics. Services include transloading imported and domestic goods, asset-based dispatch and drayage, full-Service Warehousing and Distribution, ecommerce, and transportation services. Logistics services include, trucking, intermodal dock to dock services, freight consolidation and deconsolidation, and small package
Expected to lead, plan, develop and oversee an independent contractor fleet serving major port hubs, including Inland Empire, Auburn, and Tacoma. The Director will be responsible for working with the sales teams to understand demand in each market and build an independent contractor fleet to support the demand. The ideal candidate is adept at recruiting and building relationships with independent contractor drivers. The Director of Drayage must also be well-versed in all aspects of drayage and intermodal transportation, including working with ports, intermodal ramps, container yards, chassis management, DOT weight limitations and compliance, and operational understanding of FMCSA safety requirements. The ideal candidate will also set an aggressive growth strategy, while executing to meet or exceed service level requirements of customers. The goal is to increase revenue, optimize costs, and maximize profitability.

Background Required:
  • Recruit, onboard, and retain independent contractor drivers to establish reliable fleet
  • Drayage and Intermodal Operations (10 yrs)
  • Managed independent contractor model
  • Driver Management (rate negotiations, capacity, scorecard, reporting)
  • Exposure to large strategic contract negotiations
  • Develop, understand, manage, and report customer KPIs
  • Lead team to meet and exceed KPIs
  • Versed in port, ramp, container yard, and chassis management operations
  • Knowledgeable in DOT and FMCSA
  • Travel 50%
  • Computer literate: Microsoft Office
  • Education: High School Degree
  • Residence: Inland Empire (Downey, CA)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • Transportation in multiple modes (including TL, LTL, Ocean, Barge & Dry Bulk)
  • Past success with downstream chemical manufacturers, brokers, distributors, and customers
  • Experience in various TMS, WMS, CRM products
  • Shipper side experience in chemical industry
  • Drayage technology
  • ISM or APICS certified
  • Project Management (Lean Exposure or equivalent)
  • Bachelor’s Degree
