The Dental Director aids the Chief Medical Officer by providing leadership in the dental clinic, and promotes and maintains patients’ health when providing dental services.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure quality of care by assisting in the development of dental protocols, which are consistent with the characteristics and needs of patients in the practice, dental practice standard of care, and the goals and objectives of the organization
  • Ensure continuity of care by reviewing the capacity and skills of the dental staff and available resources
  • Provide guidance by assisting in planning dental service programs and recommending clinical objectives
  • Aid in clinic growth and development by serving as the dental resource for the organization, helping resolve dental issues in the dental clinic
  • Develop, implement and supervise dental budget by advising on major dental purchases, staffing requirements, and appropriate contract negotiations
  • Review monthly financial statistics and plan expenditures within budget guidelines
  • Monitor and justify all expenses
  • Administer reports, documents, payroll records, statistical surveys, and other required data
  • Ensure daily operations by supervising the dental support staff and providers, selecting and evaluating the performance of staff, and counseling and terminating staff when necessary. Working directly with the Dental Manager.
  • Maintain a patient caseload by devoting approximately 75% of time to patient care and approximately 25% of time to clinical management functions
  • Represent the dental functions by attending the monthly Leadership team and Board of Directors meetings and sharing information relating to the Dental Clinic
  • Assess patient health by interviewing patient, performing visual examinations, obtaining, updating and studying medical and dental health histories
  • Assess and treat abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests and interpreting the test results
  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records
  • Perform therapeutic procedures by ordering and/or administering injections, suturing, managing wounds and infections, and performing corrective, preventive and/or restorative procedures
  • Instruct and counsel patients by describing therapeutic regimens, giving normal growth and developmental education, providing counseling on problems of daily care, and promoting wellness and health maintenance
  • Provide continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies and protocols
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations
  • Comply with Federal, State and Local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements and advising management on needed actions
  • Aide in monitoring, orienting and assisting dental residents
  • Develop dental care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities. Develop new dental procedures for our organization to help increase the local market share with the outcome of completive advantage.
  • Serve on committees aimed at compliance risk, and quality assurance and management, and performs peer review as requested
  • Maintain clinic standards of care by adhering to the Arizona State Board of Dentistry and those of other governing agencies
  • Assists with analytics and development of quality measures for new payment strategies and/or models
  • Adhere to expectations of required/mandatory in-services, certifications, and licensure
  • Select and maintain qualified personnel in all positions who report directly
  • Ensure staff performance results by coaching, counseling, disciplining, mentoring, planning, monitoring and evaluating job performance
  • Ensure that staff performance reviews are completed by the due date

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or equivalency
  • Doctor of Dentistry degree, DDS, DMD, etc.
  • Highly recommended Master on Business and Administration or MHA
  • Current license to practice in Arizona
