While this is a remote position, candidates are required to live along the East Coast of the United States, preferably in Florida or Washington, DC.

We are partnering with a respected, mission-driven affordable housing organization to identify top Compliance talent across multiple levels (Manager through Vice President). These roles offer the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across a growing, complex portfolio of affordable housing communities, supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term compliance strategy.

Depending on level, these positions may be fully remote (with travel) or regionally based, supporting multi-state portfolios that include Project-Based Section 8, LIHTC, HOME, Bond, and other layered programs.

The Opportunity

These roles sit at the core of portfolio performance—ensuring regulatory compliance while supporting operations teams with practical, solutions-oriented guidance. Whether operating hands-on or at a strategic leadership level, you’ll play a critical role in maintaining program integrity, supporting audits, and strengthening compliance infrastructure across the organization.

You’ll partner closely with operations, asset management, and executive leadership, serving as a trusted subject matter expert while helping drive consistency, efficiency, and best practices across the portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Compliance Oversight & Execution

  • Ensure full compliance with HUD, Project-Based Section 8, LIHTC, HOME, and other affordable housing programs
  • Review and approve certifications, recertifications, move-ins, and rent adjustments
  • Interpret regulatory guidance (HUD 4350.3, IRS 8823, etc.) and support implementation across teams
  • Monitor compliance metrics, risk indicators, and certification pipelines

Portfolio Support & Operations

  • Serve as a primary compliance resource to site teams, Regional Managers, and leadership
  • Provide hands-on guidance for file reviews, calculations, and complex scenarios
  • Conduct site visits, audits, and implement corrective action plans as needed
  • Support acquisitions, lease-ups, and transitions with compliance expertise and risk assessment

Audits, Reporting & Agency Relations

  • Lead internal and external audit preparation, execution, and response
  • Oversee timely and accurate reporting to agencies, investors, and ownership groups
  • Manage regulatory submissions including vouchers, rent adjustments, MOR responses, and inspections
  • Build and maintain relationships with HUD, state agencies, and investors

Leadership & Process Improvement (Director/VP level)

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Compliance Managers and broader teams
  • Establish policies, SOPs, and training programs to drive consistency and performance
  • Partner with senior leadership to enhance internal controls and streamline processes
  • Contribute to portfolio strategy, compliance planning, and organizational initiatives

What We’re Looking For

  • 3–7+ years of affordable housing compliance experience (level dependent)
  • Deep knowledge of LIHTC and HUD (Project-Based Section 8 required)
  • Experience working with layered programs (HOME, Bonds, SAIL, etc.) preferred
  • Strong understanding of regulatory requirements including HUD 4350.3 and IRS 8823
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Yardi, RealPage/OneSite, and/or Microsoft Office tools

For Leadership Roles:

  • Experience managing compliance teams and large, multi-site portfolios
  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence across departments and stakeholders

Additional Qualifications

  • Industry certifications (HCCP, COS, SHCM, C3P, etc.)
  • Willingness to travel (up to ~50%, depending on role)
