Job Description

Director of Compliance Affordable Housing
Relocation Assistance Available In-Office Role

An industry leader in affordable housing is seeking a Director of Compliance to oversee a large, complex multifamily portfolio across the Metro DC region. This is a high-impact leadership role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can juggle competing priorities, and brings deep expertise in LIHTC and HUD (multifamily) compliance.

The Role

As Compliance Director, you will lead compliance strategy and execution across a portfolio of 50–80 properties (6,000–9,000 units). You’ll oversee a team of Compliance Managers, partner closely with regional and ownership teams, and ensure all assets remain fully compliant with federal, state, and local affordable housing programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Compliance Managers
  • Oversee compliance across LIHTC, HUD Section 8, and other affordable housing programs
  • Manage annual reporting, investor reporting, and state agency submissions
  • Review and approve household certifications, recertifications, and move-ins
  • Audit resident files and ensure adherence to all regulatory requirements
  • Troubleshoot complex issues including voucher corrections, EIV, MOR findings, and state system uploads
  • Serve as a key liaison with HUD, investors, and housing agencies
  • Partner with operations teams to provide guidance on compliance policies and procedures
  • Monitor and enforce processes related to rent changes, waitlists, and program eligibility

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of multifamily compliance experience with strong exposure to LIHTC and HUD (multifamily) programs
  • Proven leadership experience, ideally overseeing compliance teams
  • Ability to manage a large, multi-site portfolio with competing priorities
  • Deep knowledge of affordable housing programs (tax credits required; bonds and local programs a plus)
  • Hands-on experience with EIV, MORs, voucher processing, lease-ups, and new construction tax credit delivery
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with Yardi is a plus

This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned compliance professional—or a strong Compliance Manager ready to step up—who wants to play a strategic role within a growing, mission-driven organization.
