Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Regional Vice President for a regional transportation provider.

The Director Transportation Operations Assumes responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the transportation business unit, including customer and carrier relations, and all internal operational functions. Leads the initiative to develop, manage and execute the company’s transportation management strategy. Works to increase synergy between transportation management operations and the other business units. Develops and implements new strategies, services and tactical business plans and ensures the necessary resources are in place to fulfill customer’s need and contract obligations from an operations perspective. Must have an entrepreneurial mindset and possess the ability to effectively align with business groups to enable positive and stable business growth. Provides strong leadership to all functions of the business and builds a “service/customer oriented” culture. Reinforces throughout the entire organization, the desire and commitment to the highest levels of customer service and achieve a high level of cost efficiency. Communicates and demonstrates this commitment to all customers. Evaluates current operational procedures and processes. Establishes new procedures and implement improvements where required. Makes sure all new procedures are implemented and adhered to throughout the organization. Makes sure all Service Level Agreements and Performance Metrics (tractor utilization, revenue per week/per asset) are met or exceeded. Manage the selections, developments, motivations, & retention of the staff required to grow and develop the operational aspects of the transportation management business. Ensures Company Policies and procedures are supported throughout the corporate and field operations. Assists with both short- and long-term forecasting of operational resource requirements for transportation management. Conducts evaluations of current team and provide mentoring to his/her team. Remains current on industry trends and provides strategic recommendations to management that will put Transportation Management on the “cutting edge.”

Background Preferred (but not required):

  • Grew carrier into a larger entity, M & A, re-engineered network
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (i.e. safety, behavioral psychology, risk management)
