Multiple U.S. Locations Hybrid

A globally recognized consumer brand is preparing to add a Director, Tax Reporting to its tax leadership bench.

This is not a backfill built to keep the machine running.

This is a deliberate hire created through internal movement and designed for someone who can step in, take real ownership of a complex provision environment, and develop into a broader leadership seat over time.

The role will report directly to the Senior Director, Global Tax External Reporting & Compliance and is intended to be a true successor-track opportunity for a high-caliber tax reporting leader with the technical depth to own the work and the leadership capacity to grow beyond it.

For the right person, this is the kind of role that changes the trajectory of a career.

Why this role stands out

Most tax reporting jobs offer one of two things:

Either strong technical work with limited runway, or leadership language with no real path behind it.

This one offers both.

The team is looking for a provision leader who can immediately absorb a meaningful share of a sophisticated global reporting workload, elevate executive communication, and over time become a credible successor for the senior reporting leadership seat.

The technical bar is high.
The visibility is real.
The runway is meaningful.

The mandate

This hire is expected to step in and do three things well:

  • Own the provision work

  • Create leverage for senior leadership

  • Build toward broader succession potential

The balance is roughly 70% technical strength and 30% leadership capability.

That means the technical side must already be proven. This is not a stretch role for someone still learning provision fundamentals. It is a role for someone who can look at a complex multinational reporting environment, quickly understand the key drivers, and take control with confidence.

What you’ll do

  • Lead core aspects of the quarterly and annual global income tax provision process under ASC 740

  • Own key tax reporting workstreams in a complex multinational structure with significant international considerations

  • Analyze and explain provision drivers, effective tax rate movements, reserves, and related reporting judgments with clarity and precision

  • Partner closely with tax leadership, controllership, finance, and external auditors

  • Support high-visibility executive communication tied to tax reporting and compliance matters

  • Help free senior leadership capacity by taking full ownership of day-to-day provision execution

  • Coordinate across multiple internal stakeholders and data sources to keep reporting accurate, timely, and decision-ready

  • Mentor and develop less experienced team members through technical guidance, review, and day-to-day leadership

  • Contribute to a tax organization that values rigor, judgment, enterprise thinking, and long-term leadership development

What they are looking for

The ideal candidate brings the kind of profile that earns trust quickly in a sophisticated global tax environment:

  • 8–10+ years of progressive tax experience

  • Deep experience in income tax provision and reporting

  • Strong command of ASC 740

  • CPA required

  • Background in a large multinational corporate tax environment, top-tier public accounting, or a combination of both

  • Ability to navigate complex legal entity structures and international tax reporting issues, including foreign tax credit and cross-border provision considerations

  • Strong project management instincts and the ability to work across a large, matrixed organization

  • Clear executive presence with the ability to communicate effectively with senior finance leaders and external auditors

  • Prior experience mentoring, training, or leading junior professionals

  • Ambition, maturity, and the ability to grow into a larger internal leadership footprint over time

The likely sweet spot

The strongest candidates will probably come from one of these lanes:

  • A proven tax reporting leader inside a Fortune 500 or similarly sophisticated multinational environment

  • A top-tier public accounting professional with strong provision depth who wants to move in-house into a role with real visibility and leadership runway

This is especially compelling for someone who is technically sharp, wants more than another reporting seat, and understands that the best path to broader tax leadership starts with owning the hardest fundamentals cold.

What success looks like

In the first 12 months, the person in this role should be able to:

  • Take meaningful ownership of the tax provision process

  • Build trust quickly with the Senior Director and broader tax leadership team

  • Reduce day-to-day reporting lift on senior leadership

  • Demonstrate strong judgment in a complex multinational environment

  • Communicate credibly with finance leadership and external auditors

  • Establish a reputation as a future leader, not just a strong operator

Over time, this role is expected to create the foundation for broader scope and succession potential within the tax organization.

Leadership environment

This role sits under a leader whose background reflects both public accounting discipline and internal progression across technical accounting, external reporting, and compliance, making it an especially strong seat for candidates who want to learn under a rigorous reporting framework while building toward enterprise-level tax leadership.

Compensation

Expected package includes:

  • Competitive base salary

  • Annual bonus

  • Long-term equity or stock-based participation, where applicable
