Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP of Carrier Procurement of a Freight Management company, part of a billion-dollar supply chain service provider with rapidly growing capabilities in transportation, warehouse and distribution center support, yard management, last mile delivery, supply chain optimization, and more. The Freight Management company was named on Crain’s Fast 50 list of the fastest-growing companies in Chicago, and on Transport Topics Top Freight Brokerage Firms.
The Director of Strategic Capacity will manage the partner carrier network and develop strategies to ensure the partner carrier network meets customers’ requirements. Will utilize analytics to identify network gaps, identify, vet, profile, and negotiate transportation assets of all sizes, regions, and modes to drive targeted purchasing level improvements. Will oversee carrier selection and carrier award process. Will oversee improvements to the carrier scorecard program and work with business intelligence and carrier sales team to distribute monthly scorecards. Will work with the carrier sales leadership team to ensure brand and positioning in marketplace is appropriate. Will identify needed operational improvements at the organization and work with leadership team to develop respective solutions. Challenge is to successfully grow new and existing customer accounts and grow the contract carrier network, while decreasing freight spend and maintaining expected levels of service.

Background Required:
  • Carrier Development in Brokerage environment (3+ years)
  • Modes of transportation (i.e. Truckload, LTL, intermodal, Specialized)
  • Strong Negotiation Ability (Carrier, Customer, Margin Integrity)
  • Create a carrier following utilizing historical data and carrier management techniques.
  • Carrier Procurement KPI’s (i.e. load count, revenue, margin, load count, call logs)
  • Computer literate (Microsoft Suite: Power Point, Word, Excel)
  • Residence: Chicago, IL
