Our client, a rapidly growing technology firm based in downtown Toronto has engaged ROSS to help them recruit a Director, Software Engineering. ROSS is a team of People Specialists helping companies align their People Strategy with their business growth. We provide contingency recruitment in addition to remote or onsite HR and Recruitment solutions such as Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) and Recruitment Augmentation.

Our client has experienced >100% profitable growth annually and currently employs approximately 80 employees with multiple offices across North America. They are currently seeking a technically savvy, motivated leader to fill the position of Director, Software Engineering.

As the Director of Software Engineering at our client, you will be responsible for leading a highly talented and versatile software development team. Working closely with the CTO, you will ensure that the growth and development of our client’s product is powering the strategic direction of our client. Due to growth and demand for their services, they are in need of hiring a Software Leader that possesses experience designing enterprise SaaS applications using Service Oriented Architecture for high scalability and performance. Role and Responsibilities:

  • Together with the CTO help streamline and improve engineering processes, technologies and tools for solutions delivered in a manner that balance technical excellence with business goals.
  • Provide technical and architectural expertise, direction and decisions to the team.
  • Support the recruiting and onboarding of new technical hires.
  • Work closely with our team leads to build mentorship strategies for all team members.
  • Be a final step in the solutioning and estimation process before the start of new projects.
  • Audit architecture / development plans and determine scaling, reliability, operational needs to match with business and client concerns.
  • Help the Product team achieve continuous delivery.
  • Build reliability, scaling, fallback strategies and policies across the engineering organization.
  • Collaborating with the Product, QA, and Operations teams to ensure our technology platform drives business objectives and takes advantage of technology trends.
  • Identifying and addressing gaps in the technical process to drive continuous delivery and improvement.
  • Proactively improve the productivity and efficiency.

Requirements:

  • You’ve moved up through the ranks of software engineering and have experience in front end and back end.
  • 5+ years of driving SaaS development
  • 3+ years in building and leading engineering teams in a Management capacity including HR responsibilities (hiring, firing, performance management). You have a proven track record of building strong, highly productive and cohesive engineering teams and supporting career development.
  • Practical knowledge of object-oriented, SOA and enterprise design patterns
  • You are a true leader – someone who enables and inspires their team to do their best work.
  • Experience evaluating, procuring and using new technologies.
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline.
