Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the President, Vice President, and Vice President of Safety for a subsidiary of a $1.75 billion, publicly traded leading single-source logistics provider that offers a broad scope of services throughout the entire supply chain. The Company is able to provide customized logistics solutions to its clients resulting in proven efficiencies and savings, utilizing over 900 drivers, 900 tractors and 1200 trailers.
The Director, Safety is responsible for the overall direction and coordination of programs and activities. Directs compliance with federal and industry regulations. Investigate accidents and injuries, assign driver coaching/training opportunities, counsel drivers on unsafe acts, respond to serious accidents as they occur, maintain DOT register and DOT accident files. Keeps the company up-to-date and well-informed of new Safety trends and/or Safety law changes. Additionally, responsibilities include, DOT compliance of drivers, equipment, and facilities, including training of personnel, electronic driver log compliance, accident management, DOT, OSHA, and EPA audit. (Travel 20%)

Background Required:
- Class-8 transportation safety management experience (5 years)
- Driver training, medical qualification, licensing & ongoing certification requirements
- CSA, FMCSA, DOT, HOS, ELD, EPA & OSHA knowledge
- On-board communication systems (i.e., AS/400, Qualcomm)
- KPI management and recognition/reward
- Vehicle inspection and maintenance requirements
- Accident-avoidance technology & application for driver safety (i.e., Lytx)
- DOT physicals and drug/alcohol testing
- Computer literate: MS Office Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, & Outlook
- Experience managing safety and compliance for independent contractors
- Dispatch and decision support software (i.e., TMW, McLeod, IDSC, KSM Pricing Tools, TripAlert)
- Education: Bachelor’s degree (i.e., Supply Chain, Logistics or Transportation)
- Residence: Warren, MI (relocation assistance)
- Excellent communications (written, oral and presentation)
