Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to ownership for a regional transportation provider.

The Director, Safety ensures that all company-drivers and support personnel are in full compliance with DOT-OSHA, safety, and maintenance, related policies, practices and procedures. Provides leadership to staff through motivation, direction, review of and feedback on performance, and salary reviews. Constantly works to improve CSA scores. Represents the firm in front of customers, federal and state regulators, and insurance providers. Establishes policies that ensure legal compliance with state and federal regulations. Leads vehicle accident and injury prevention, improving results. Works with all associates to implement consistent policies through education and monitoring. Leads the corporate security policy and procedures. Provides corporate strategy as it relates to vendor selection and technology enhancements. Challenge is to assure compliance of all regulatory requirements and development of one of the safest fleets in the industry. Requires up to 25% travel.

Background Required:
  • Senior transportation safety management (5 years)
  • Personnel management
  • 30(b)6 corporate witness for depositions
  • Multiple facility compliance management
  • CSA, FMCSA, DOT, HOS, ELD, In-Cab Cameras and OSHA
  • Accident-Incident and injury investigation & prevention
  • Computer literate: (Microsoft Office Suite, Lytx)
  • Residence: Detroit, MI (relocation assistance)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • CTPAT Cross-border security
  • CDL license/driving experience
  • Certifications (i.e. CDS (Certified Director of Safety), CSP (Certified Safety Professional))
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (i.e. Supply Chain, Logistics or Transportation)
