Altru Health System, a 322-bed (medical center and specialty hospital), community-owned, integrated health system, has an outstanding opportunity for the newly created position of Director Pharmacy Services. Morgan Hunter HealthSearch has been retained to lead this critical search.

This teaching hospital offers comprehensive care services to 200,000 residents in the Red River Valley of northeast North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. Through two hospital locations, 13 Grand Forks practices and 11 regional clinics, patients have access to the expertise of the Mayo Clinic Network. Specialty care includes the Family Birthing Center, Cancer Center, Advanced Orthopedics, as well as one of the Nations Top 100 Hospitals for cardiovascular care. Altru has announced the construction of a new 21st century hospital and campus reorganization, representing a commitment of $250 million in improvements.

Reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Pharmacy Services will oversee all medication process-related operations for the integrated health system, which includes pharmacy services, the anticoagulation clinic and 304B purchasing. The director will establish and execute short and long-term strategic planning and program implementation focused on medication operations across all departments and service lines. Other focuses include management of formulary, compliance, accreditation, process improvement, quality initiatives, and network development. Subordinate pharmacy leadership is structured with two managers (inpatient and retail) and four supervisors, who work alongside 45 pharmacists and 32 techs.

Candidates will present with a minimum of five years of pharmacy leadership experience in a similar environment. Educational requirements include a Bachelor’s of Pharmacy. Ideal candidates will have a Pharm D, MHA or MBA, as well as any additional clinical certifications.

Grand Forks is the third largest city in North Dakota with a metro area population of over 98,000. Situated on the banks of Red River of the North, it is the home to the University of North Dakota with its law, aerospace and medical school, as well as 12 public and private primary and secondary education sites. The local economy is diversified through healthcare, education, wind power, retail food processing, light aircraft manufacturing and an Air Force Base. A variety of available housing includes mansions from the 1800s to new construction on the south side of town.
