Position Responsibilities:

Reporting to the President of a regional transportation provider.

The Director of Operations oversees the operations team to ensure freight is picked up and delivered on time. Outlines procedures that guarantees proper freight selection, preplanning, load assignment to driver, en-route driver supervision, and delivery at consignee. Enforces compliance with safety rules, administrative policies, procedures, and governmental regulations. Evaluates inbound-backhaul opportunities to maximize truck utilization. Monitors and improves fleet/equipment utilization and fuel efficiency. Reviews active freight bookings and current trailer pools to satisfy customer needs and resolve all operational issues. Identifies opportunities for business growth and solicits freight from the best customers in the best lanes and geographic locations. Works closely with recruiting personnel to orient and train new company drivers. Manages schedules and shifts of Operations personnel. Participates in weekend coverage rotation. Ensures safety policies and procedures are being followed and leads quarterly company safety meetings, conducting regular safety meetings and/or training, administering on-line video training, and targeting trends. Provides leadership and direction when communicating opportunities for safety and efficiency improvement. Involved in the development, implementation and maintenance of the policies & procedures required for discipline of driver-based violations.

Background Required:
• Truckload Management (5 years)
• Revenue & yield understanding
• Fleet Management, Customer Service, Load planning and extended coverage
• Familiar with on-board communication systems (i.e.: PeopleNet, Omnitracs)
• Familiar with Dispatch Support Software (i.e.: McLeod, TMW)
• Established standard operating procedures and metrics (KPI’s)
• Safety, CSA, DOT, OSHA, ELD
• Committed to Drivers - Understanding Driver Retention strategies
• Residence: Chicago, IL (relocation assistance)

Background Preferred (but not required):
• Background growing a carrier into larger entity
• Education: College Graduate- BA or BS
