Position Responsibilities:
Reporting to the VP, Safety for a regional dry-bulk carrier.

The Director, Claims This role will be responsible for the mitigation of all work comp and liability claims, corporate visibility to status of involved parties, equipment, property, and cargo. This role will also be the primary communication link to the insurance providers, TPAs, brokers, and related parties. This role will work closely with the maintenance team to control and track accident related costs. This role will work closely with the finance team to ensure that accident related expenses and reserves are accurately tracked and updated. Will work closely with operations and others to investigate and respond to spills, contaminations, theft, and other similar events in a timely, positive, and detailed manner. Additionally, this role will assist the safety team to ensure that the proper processes are being followed in the reporting and follow up of a related event. This role will also be responsible for overall regulatory compliance, proper documentation, and credential management. (Travel 15%).

Background Required:
  • Class-8 transportation safety management experience (5 years)
  • Risk Management, Insurance, claims adjustments, Subrogation and Loss Runs (5 years)
  • CSA, FMCSA, DOT, HOS, ELD, EPA & OSHA knowledge
  • Receive, record, and enter event reports
  • On-board communication systems (i.e., Samsara, McLeod)
  • Accident-avoidance technology & application for driver safety (i.e., Lytx)
  • DOT physicals and drug/alcohol testing
  • Computer literate: MS Office Suite, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, & Outlook
  • Residence: Griffith, IN (relocation assistance)
Background Preferred (but not required):
  • KPI management and recognition/reward
  • Dispatch and decision support software
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (i.e., Environmental engineering, Supply Chain, Transportation)
