The Opportunity

Crucialhire is partnering with a well-established manufacturer operating in the transportation and vehicle-based manufacturing space to identify a Design Engineer. This role offers hands-on involvement in the design and development of mechanical products and systems, working closely with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams from concept through production.

This position is well-suited for an early-career Mechanical Engineer looking to build practical design experience while contributing to complex, real-world products.


What You’ll Do

  • Plan and execute engineering projects by evaluating customer requirements, market demand, and competitive products; coordinating work assignments; and tracking project outcomes.

  • Design, evaluate, and improve mechanical systems and products using principles of mechanics, hydraulics, and materials.

  • Confirm system and product capabilities through feasibility studies, test design, and performance validation.

  • Develop mechanical products by researching and testing manufacturing and assembly methods and materials, incorporating feedback from production operators.

  • Improve manufacturing processes with a focus on cost reduction and efficiency by designing or modifying equipment used to fabricate, assemble, and install components.

  • Ensure system and product quality by designing testing methods and validating fabrication, assembly, and installation processes.

  • Prepare technical and product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing engineering data and trends.

  • Provide engineering support and technical insight to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with applicable government and industry regulations.

  • Maintain system and product databases, including writing computer programs and entering technical data.

  • Stay current technically by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, building professional networks, and participating in professional organizations.

  • Support the engineering team and contribute to related initiatives as needed.


What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (required).

  • 1–5 years of engineering experience (entry-level to early career).

  • Heavy haul trailer engineering experience is a plus.

  • Heavy equipment engineering experience is a plus.

  • Advanced computer skills with the ability to understand electronic processing systems.

  • Strong technical proficiency in Excel and engineering/design software systems.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills for effective collaboration with internal and external contacts.

  • Strong analytical and technical skills with the ability to understand business practices and recommend appropriate automation opportunities.

  • Functional understanding of cost accounting principles.

  • Innovative mindset with the ability to embrace lean enterprise principles and practices.

  • Ability to quickly learn new tools, systems, and technologies.
