Transformer Design Engineer

We are seeking a Transformer Design Engineer to support the design and development of liquid-filled and dry-type distribution transformers, including units for specialized applications. This role will be responsible for preparing and executing transformer design scope, developing optimized technical solutions, and providing engineering support to both internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop design solutions for liquid-filled and dry-type distribution transformers, including custom and special-application units.
• Apply both electrical and mechanical engineering principles in transformer design.
• Support design improvement and optimization efforts for performance, manufacturability, and application needs.
• Prepare designs for both standard products and specialized transformer applications.
• Provide technical support to internal departments and external stakeholders as needed.
• Work with commercial teams to support customer opportunities, proposals, and awarded work.
• Assist with project execution activities when required.
• Coordinate with vendors and suppliers on technical matters when needed.
• Contribute effectively within a collaborative engineering team environment.

Preferred Background

• At least 5 years of experience in the design of liquid-filled and dry-type distribution transformers, including special applications.
• Good understanding of transformer-related electrical and mechanical design principles.
• Familiarity with applicable industry standards such as UL, IEEE, ANSI, and DOE.
• Experience with design optimization methods for distribution transformers.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical, commercial, and supplier teams.
• Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Creative, team-oriented, and detail-focused approach to engineering work.
• Electrical engineering education preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred, but not required.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in transformer design and/or repair.
• Solid understanding of transformer applications and relevant industry standards.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and solve technical problems effectively.
• Detail-oriented mindset with an innovative approach to engineering challenges.
