About the Opportunity

GRC Executive is conducting a confidential search on behalf of a growing financial institution for an experienced Deputy Chief Compliance Officer to help lead the continued growth and transformation of its compliance organization.

This is a senior leadership opportunity for an accomplished compliance executive who combines strong BSA/AML, OFAC, financial crimes, and regulatory expertise with exceptional people leadership and organizational management skills.

The organization is evolving from a smaller, entrepreneurial environment into a larger, more structured and scalable financial institution. The successful candidate will play a key role in building the people, processes, controls, management structure, and compliance infrastructure necessary to support that growth.

Candidates located throughout the United States will be considered. The selected executive should be prepared to spend significant time working with the leadership team in Puerto Rico, particularly during the initial transition period.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with the Chief Compliance Officer and executive leadership to lead and scale the Compliance organization.
  • Provide senior leadership across BSA/AML, OFAC/sanctions, KYC, CDD/EDD, transaction monitoring, investigations, and SAR processes.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor compliance managers and their teams.
  • Establish clear accountability, performance expectations, management processes, and organizational structure.
  • Strengthen compliance policies, procedures, controls, escalation processes, and governance.
  • Help transform existing compliance operations into a scalable, efficient, and sustainable organization.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, technology implementation, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee or support regulatory examinations, audits, risk assessments, testing, and remediation initiatives.
  • Partner with Risk, Legal, Operations, Technology, Product, and other business leaders on regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Provide senior oversight of emerging compliance and financial-crime risks associated with new products, technologies, and business growth.
  • Develop meaningful compliance metrics and reporting for executive management.
  • Help build and maintain a strong culture of compliance throughout the organization.
  • Potentially assume BSA Officer or other designated compliance responsibilities, depending on experience and organizational needs.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive compliance, BSA/AML, financial crimes, risk, or related financial-services experience.
  • Significant experience in a senior compliance leadership position, such as Deputy CCO, BSA Officer, Head of BSA/AML, Head of Financial Crimes, SVP/VP Compliance, or similar.
  • Proven experience leading managers and building high-performing teams.
  • Demonstrated success helping build, scale, restructure, or transform a compliance organization.
  • Strong knowledge of BSA/AML, OFAC, KYC/CDD/EDD, transaction monitoring, investigations, SARs, and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience interacting with regulators, auditors, boards, and executive leadership.
  • Strong understanding of compliance governance, risk management, internal controls, and remediation.
  • Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical and scalable business processes.
  • Excellent executive communication, leadership, judgment, and organizational skills.
  • Experience within banking or another highly regulated financial institution strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree is a plus.
  • CAMS, CRCM, CFE, or similar professional certification is preferred.
  • Experience with fintech, payments, digital banking, cryptocurrency, blockchain, or digital assets is a plus.
  • English required; English/Spanish bilingual capabilities are a plus.

The Ideal Candidate

We are not simply looking for the person with the deepest technical compliance résumé.

We are looking for a leader, builder, and change agent.

The ideal candidate has experienced organizational growth firsthand and understands how to take a compliance function from a smaller operation to a larger, disciplined, scalable organization.

This person should be equally comfortable discussing BSA/AML risk with senior executives, developing managers, challenging existing processes, implementing structure and accountability, and rolling up their sleeves when necessary.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to have a significant impact on the next stage of a growing financial institution.

The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership and have the opportunity to help shape the people, structure, processes, technology, and culture of the compliance organization.

All inquiries and applications will be handled confidentially by GRC Executive.

Qualified candidates will be contacted directly to coordinate a confidential interview.
