DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS/LAW FIRM CONTROLLER
The company provides comprehensive accounting department services to law firms throughout the Southwest. Our client base has been growing at about 10% annually and we are poised to possibly double in size over the next four years.
Reporting to senior management, the Director of Operations/Controller will be responsible for oversight of all general ledger accounting, client billing, client payment processing, accounts payable processing for several separate law firms, each with its own set of books, supervising a team of several staff accountants, billing specialists and others.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all invoice processing activities ensuring compliance with appropriate client-specific billing guidelines.
- Monitor electronic billing sites to ensure prompt correction of errors or deficiencies in prior submissions.
- Manage updates to the law firms’ accounts receivable databases to reflect client payments and posting of vouchers to record vendor payments in the accounting software.
- Continually analyze the financial data entered into the general ledger and supporting systems to ensure the information clearly documents the underlying transactions and presented in compliance with appropriate accounting standards.
- Direct various summarizing time, billing, collection, inventory aging and other financial reports for delivery to the law firms and reconciliation of bank accounts and subsidiary reporting system to the general ledger to ensure balance reporting integrity.
- Supervise staff workloads and workflow to ensure prompt execution of all emails and other inquiries from the law firms.
- Leverage strengths of current accounting staff members, assist in clarifying roles and responsibilities and implement training programs to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.
- Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels and create/promote a positive, supporting work environment.
Qualifications:
This is an extraordinary opportunity for a mature leader with 10 plus years of accounting and finance experience working in a complex and multi-faceted environment. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to customer service, and a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker. Prior public accounting and/or law firm experience is a plus, but not required.
