Manager, Credit Risk (Corporate & Commercial Lending)
The client is a leading financial institution with significant North American holdings and a multi-national presence. The client has operations across most verticals, including Institutional & Corporate, Wealth Management, Private Client, Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, Treasury, etc.
The Senior Manager, Credit Risk, will be responsible for ensuring the implementation and compliance of the credit and risk policies of the Bank, focusing on the corporate and commercial lending proposals. They will work closely with the assigned teams in the Commercial and Corporate Lending Department, to ensure portfolio management is in line with the business and risk objectives of the Bank. Key responsibilities include:
- Credit risk management
- Adherence to Corporate and Commercial Credit & Recovery Policy, Expected Credit Loss Policy, Enterprise Risk Management Framework and Liquidity & Investment Policy
- Enhanced risk measures and control
- Basel implementation for the Bank
What you will achieve in this role:
- Constantly review the assigned portfolio to monitor the credit quality; report the same to the Senior Manager, Credit Risk & CRO on a regular basis
- Carry out credit analysis of lending proposals including commercial and syndication loans
- Provide research support to Senior Manager, Credit Risk & CRO on external developments (industry, sector trends, etc.) and their potential effects on the assigned portfolio
- Liaise with internal audit, external audit and regulatory body as a point of contact on risk-related matters
- Vet and analyze credit and investment proposals thoroughly before presenting to the Rating Forum and Management Credit Committee (“MCC”), evaluate the quality of credit applications by providing constructive feedback to the “line” Managers and ensure application of guidelines as set by the MCC, the Board and regulators
- Ensure periodic reviews, credit control, and loan administration functions are performed efficiently and as when due, supported by effective monitoring and controls, including credit scoring models for various segments
- Foster an environment of focused and proactive management of credit exposures; stay current with financial analysis and risk profile of sectors with large concentration (i.e. real estate), borrowers and counterparties
- Coach, mentor, and develop a strong credit culture among commercial and corporate lenders; monitor and ensure compliance with organizational, business, strategic, operational, legal, reputation and market risks where applicable
- Manage elements stipulated in the Liquidity & Investment Policy; facilitate implementation of various risk control measures including new limits & limit enhancements
- Implement relevant Basel framework for the Bank with the responsibility to develop Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP); design & enhance suitable stress testing models to quantify key risks faced by the Bank
- Facilitate TMOG in the reporting process with clarification & vetting on the methodologies, computation steps, and components on various limits stipulated in the policy
- Coordinate within the department to prepare presentations for Senior Management, Board & Regulators
What you will bring to this role:
- 3+ years of related credit experience
- In-depth understanding of wholesale and commercial lending products
- Strong knowledge of financial statements, credit structures, and complex financial transactions
- Understanding of the statutory and other regulatory requirements in Canada
- Strong credit assessment skills with market knowledge of various industry sectors
- Portfolio monitoring skills
- Ability to sense and scan the external environment to assess the threats and opportunities
- Providing guidance to the Business Team in order to comply with the lending policies and underwriting criteria
- Strong development skills, teamwork skills, delivery on targets, and tasks delivered in a time-bound manner
- Statistically oriented to ensure adherence to various policies
- Passionate, assertive, able to build strong relationships
- Ability to find solutions while removing roadblocks in a timely manner
- Ability to counsel and coach colleagues and support staff
- Strong independent process setting and managing ability
