Counselor Aide

Position Id

  • Assist with providing individual and group substance abuse counseling.
  • Assist and monitor patients with activities of daily living.
  • Work as part of the treatment team to assist patients receiving services in formulating measurable service/recovery goals.
  • Participate in clinical team meetings to monitor patient progress against goals.
  • Document interactions, observations and any other appropriate information.
  • Collaborate with patients, family members and other involved parties to assess barriers to attainment of goals and/or resources.
  • Respond to emergency and/or crisis situations; contact appropriate individuals and/or agencies to ensure appropriate intervention and actions to optimize patient safety.
  • Manage and oversee assigned case load to ensure delivery of services identified for continuity of care.
  • Assist in performing a Behavioral Health assessment of patient, developing treatment/service plan to meet determined care needs.
  • Follow up on patient complaints to ensure timely response and/or appropriate resolution to concerns/issues.
  • Monitor patient visitors.
  • Work closely and cooperatively with peers.
  • Participate in departmental orientation, on-the-job training and quality assurance programs/initiatives.
  • Participate in a variety of department and hospital educational programs to maintain current skill and competency levels; identifies and discusses performance or training needs with Supervisor.


  • Completion of a course of study leading to a High School Diploma or equivalent ; Associates Degree in Chemical Dependency, Mental Health or closely related field, preferred.
  • CPR certification or acquired within 30 days of hire.
  • Must have six (6) months behavioral health/mental health experience involving direct client contact; one year full-time experience in Substance Abuse, Behavioral Health, or Residential Treatment setting preferred.
  • Must have a current and valid AZ Driver’s License.
